To think if God does exist, he's a bit of a bastard?

I am especially interested to hear from any Christians. I am not a Christian but I would describe myself as a spiritual person. I don't know if there is an after life, nor do I care. In fact if nothing happens to me when I die it would be a relief.
Some of you may have read my threads about how my mother is dying of cancer. The suffering is awful even though the pain is managed, it is hard to watch someone die and loose all her faculties. Also she is very young. How do you Christian folk justify the suffering, unfairness and pain that goes on in the world such as famine, children dying etc? I am searching for answers but I just cannot find any comfort at the moment.

I'm beginning to think that the only way to go is survival of the fittest and evolution because that explains all the ''evil'' that goes on in the world. It's human nature to committ ''sin'' or rather a product of the selffish gene.
Diseases such as cancer happen due to cell mutations. They are not ''evil'' but nature but that dosn't give me any comfort at all as nature is harsh. Thiese theories are not designed to give us a cushion against pain but are observations of human behaviour etc.
I think that the concept of heaven and hell was made to control us and make us ''behave'' and that heaven and hell is more something we find down on earth. We can experience both.

So sorry to heqar about your Mum OP. I am a Christian but I don't necessarily have any answers to your question regarding your Mum. I think that horrible things just DO happen. I have lost two aunties in six months to cancer, the second aunty's funeral was yesterday.

As far as famine and wars go I belive that man has free will to live his life in the best way possible. The fact that many men DON'T do this is behind wars and famine. Man will always fight about something, if not religion then money or world resources. Always something to fight about and it's horrible.
Famine is dreadful but there is more than enough food and money to get food to people in the world - the fact is we don't do enough and many countries have problerms with aid being expolited for horrible means which stops it reaching those it is intended for at tmes.

If the last six months has taught me anything it's that we do not kn ow what is round the corner. Seize the day - live your life as though each day is your last because you don't know what tomorrow brings. In many ways the events of the last six months have made me more prayerful than less. When all is madness it helps me to stop and pray to God (or whatever manifestation others believe in). It helps ME but I respect it might not be the same for others.

I'm not sure that it's human nature to commit "sin"

Most of us have a strong genetic programming that prevents us committing murder. Apparently it is quite difficult to train soldiers to kill, especially close up and personal.

I don't covet my neighbour's ass and I have never felt impelled to move his landmark. I don't steal. I am morally opposed to bearing false witness. I always try not to committ adultery. However I don't feel impelled to keep the Lord's day holy.

In some cases human nature existed first and was defined as sinful.
