FFS. The sparkles, I get, but pole dancing?

clemetteattlee · 12/06/2011 22:32

Jesus, I don't generally judge but, WTF indeed

HowlingBitch · 12/06/2011 22:49

"?They wanted to join in because it is such fun. There is nothing sexual about it. I am trying to remove the stigma from pole dancing and show that it actually helps children keep fit and learn balance, much like gym classes."

The whole point of pole dancing is to entice men it was never anything else. That is what it was invented for not keeping fit there is no stigma. What a deluded, ridicules and dangerous human being. Grr.

I clicked on the link - its the DM so twisted as flippety fuck story as you can get. A pound to a penny the woman probably didn't utter a word of what is written.....

squeakytoy · 12/06/2011 22:54

I am going to play devils advocate here.

We all know how the DM likes to twist shit and make anything into a scandal.

Pole dancing is very athletic. I have seen women do it PROPERLY and it is nothing more than very good gymnastics. It does not have to be sleazy.

You could compare it to latin or ballroom dancing, which when done by adults can be very sensual and provocative, but when done by children is nothing more than learning to dance.

microserf · 12/06/2011 23:07

surely this is a DM windup?

monkeyslut · 13/06/2011 05:24

Well, I wouldn't let my 5 year old do it, good exercise or not. The connotations will always be there.

"You could compare it to latin or ballroom dancing, which when done by adults can be very sensual and provocative, but when done by children is nothing more than learning to dance"

But when do people cha cha naked?

Having said that, Grin

fridakahlo · 13/06/2011 05:38

Wow, he was amazing!

CheerfulYank · 13/06/2011 05:54

He was great! :)

If you're saying it's "just like a gymnastics class" , then why don't you just, you know, enroll them in gymnastics ?!

Tee2072 · 13/06/2011 06:42

While I understand the objections, watching that guy do it reminded me of the acrobats on ropes in the Circ du Solie or however you spell it.

So maybe not like gymnastics but like acrobatics?

But, again, just send them to acrobatics class....

itisnearlysummer · 13/06/2011 09:12

God don't let my MIL see this. She already thinks 'make overs' are an appropriate way to spend the afternoon with her granddaughter!

lisad123 · 13/06/2011 10:19

That's terrible Confused
Why would you do that? I get that it's good exercise but surely any other activity would be better than that!!

bupcakesandcunting · 13/06/2011 10:27

"She said pole dancing originated from a traditional Indian sport called Malkhamb in which gymnasts, including many children, performed around a wooden pole. She added: ?I?m not a scumbag. ?"

Oh, I disagree.

The huns are taking over the bastard world...

Oh please.

bupcakesandcunting · 13/06/2011 10:32

So, working by that logic, learning how to striptease is learning how to dance. If the kids are interested and it gets them off the sofa, why not?

I hope that no-one from Spearmint Rhino is reading this or I have probably just given them a gratis business idea.

didn't see matty shields once lick the pole or wipe his sweaty crotch on it Grin

bruffin · 13/06/2011 10:40

She is a tv wannabee probably trying to get publicity.

jbcbj · 13/06/2011 10:40

that bloke was fantastic!!! that said, i wouldn't let dd do it, sleazy or not there are connotations and expectations. the picture of the little girl in a teeny-tiny crop top says it all really. dd can go to tumble tots instead....

TheBigJessie · 13/06/2011 10:47

Sure, I can see how it could aid one to "keep fit and learn balance". But wouldn't gymnasticsdo it better? Or ballet? Or karate? Or judo?

There's more to those, than trying to be sexually attractive, and thus a greater potential for building athletic skill. And if you have talent, you can enter competitions, and get medal. With the latter two, you can learn to defend yourself.

Butterbur · 13/06/2011 10:59

If you want sleazy, you should see freestyle disco dancing competitions. There was one at the weekend, where DD does gymnastics.

If you want to see pre-pubescent girls with fake tan, hair extensions, false eyelashes and blingtastic cutaway leotards prowl and pout their way round the judges, then this would be your thing.

The shame is that it looks like an energetic and fun sport, but it is so hypersexualised that I wouldn't want a young DD of mine to do it. Honestly, I watched 7 year old slink into the arena with a hip-rolling walk that would've done justice to a 30 year old hooker.

Gooseberrybushes · 13/06/2011 11:06

Butter - why were you there if your daughters don't do it?

I said - I was picking her up from a gym class at the same venue, and we stopped to watch through the window for a bit.
