to think that an "allegedly" 5* hotel should offer 5* service?

I am staying at a place in Switzerland at the moment. It is crp. Apart from really nice swimming and sauna facilities.
I cannot take advantage of the breakfast, which is included in the room price, because they don't serve it early enough for me.
My room has not been cleaned properly all week, dead moths etc. just left, stuff on the carpet from previous guests not hoovered up etc.
Tonight I was told I could not have any mashed potato with my supper. Er, why not? Because they are busy or the chef can't do it or...
5
rubbish.

YANBU for thinking they are crap, YABU if you don't complain. Although, im not sure about the mashed potato - is it on the menu?

Envy Envy Envy that you are switzerland!

Name and shame. Normally breakfasts are 7.30am onwards. As for the cleaning , ask to see the manager or head of housekeeping and show them the problem

E320 - I would make a complaint in writing to the hotel saying the service / accomadation was not up to 5* standards. Make bullet points of all the things you were not satisfied with - you might get some sort of refund. The other thing you can do is list all the short comings of the hotel on Trip adviser - at least the person who reads you review will get a better idea of what NOT to expect.

I know how it feels to pay good money for a 'can't be aresed service'...not nice.

Desiderata · 11/06/2011 21:59

The Swiss can't grow potatoes, so asking for mash is like asking water in the desert. They have no culture for the things, I'm afraid.

RiverIslandMom · 11/06/2011 22:00

*arsed...

PenelopePitstops · 11/06/2011 22:07

i worked in a 3* hotel and if guests asked for early breakfast they got it, have you asked the hotel to provide an earlier service?

PenelopePitstops · 11/06/2011 22:08

but the rest sounds shite, write and complain.

ginmakesitallok · 11/06/2011 22:09

How early is early??

passivelyaggresive · 11/06/2011 22:14

is that true Desi? I am trying to remember if i ever ate any potatoes when i was there for my all to short visit! lol

methodsandmaterials · 11/06/2011 22:15

Isn't rosti Swiss? That's all about the potatoes.

Desiderata · 11/06/2011 22:45

Yes, but a rosti is all about utilizing the common potato to the unth degree! You shred one, and add egg and flour.

Let's face it .. five star or no, the Swiss cuisine is the worst in the world, and no amount of money is going to make that right.

Comments about dirt, etc., are fair game. There is no excuse in any hotel.
