to not be a Mum but still want to be part of Mumsnet?

I lost a baby late in pregnancy and found myself here via a lurk on the bereavement and miscarriage/pregnancy loss forums, so I suppose I'm not a complete fraud. But I can't thinking that even if I was never planning on having children I could still find a lot of information/support/fun here entirely relevant to all women.

Just out of interest really, are non-Mums welcome on Mumsnet?

I'm welcoming you! Sorry for your loss and, as somebody who had a miscarriage just over a year ago but now has a healthy baby, I'm feeling your pain (difficult even to express how much it hurts), but telling you a lot can change in a year!

Of course they are! I think there is plenty on here that isn't child-orientated (thank God!) Get stuck in- but be warned, it's addictive!

I like the idea of non-mums wanting to be here, so welcome! I'm a mum but most of what I post about/read on here is not mum related anyway. Sorry to hear of your loss

Sorry for your loss,like a previous poster I had a mc last year & it can be heartbreaking,but life changes a lot & quickly,I'm due in a few weeks & I wish you all the luck in the world.

Thanks for your lovely messages, and of course I do consider myself to be a mum. But I suppose the issue I was worried about is that practically speaking I'm not really (and in my currently heightened emotional/defensive state I do have a tendency to feel excluded from the parenting 'club'...). However, you've all made me feel very welcome so I'll definitely stick around .

I'm so, so sorry for your loss. I hope you've found help on the boards you've been on.

But please feel free to venture onto the others as well. I reckon there are about the same amount of non-parenting threds as there are ones about being a parent, in whatever guise they might be.

The parent issue os neither here nor there for many posters.
It makes me laugh how some of my friends think MN is for talking nappies and sleep rpoutines.

Sure it's there if you want it but it's just one of many things going on.

The calibre of political debate on here is exceptional for one thing.
As is fashion advice!

So sorry for your loss, and yes you absolutely are a Mum. Not that it matters in terms of Mumsnet, I think that it's so popular and well known now and crops up in all kinds of google search results, that all kinds of people post here.

It is a unique site, and most of it doesn't feature children anyway, I'd be happy to browse here often even if I had no interest in children whatsoever. I have tried to find other sites like Mn but failed, I think the USP of Mn is that it is majority female, but not heavily moderated and censored, obviously it has a huge user base too.

Every other site that I have encountered with a huge user base is either male dominated or heavily moderated (which does my bonce in).

I'm not a mum, but discovered mumsnet by chance during last general election.
The press were discussing mumsnet (in a quite negative way) so i decided to lurk and found i really enjoyed a lot of threads - AIBU is the best.
It's good to find a forum where there are other intelligent women (and a few men) of all backgrounds who will discuss anything, and have a variety of views.
Also I hope to ttc when my health improves, and mumsnet's tips will be useful.

I'm not a mum either but I found MN a few years ago when reading about bilingualism in children and just ended up staying! I don't read all the (what for me are) boring threads about weaning and sleep, but I love AIBU, Chat and Relationships. I also work in teacher education so find the education threads interesting too.
