I took ds10 to football training tonight, and got chatting to one of the other boys' grandfather. We don't know him, but we've seen him at training before and he seems nice enough. The boys were having a break, and ds ate his snack ( a marmite sandwich and a carrot) and this man suddenly said to him "You'd better not eat any more of that - or you'll be too fat to play football any more!"

Ds looked upset and put his sandwich back in his lunchbox. He's not skinny, but he's not fat at all - and I don't want him to get self conscious about his weight. And anyway, even if he had been fat, what business was it of a random stranger? I

You need to teach your child to smile at people who are trying to crack a joke..

YANBU
You should have had him arrested immediately. You could have done a citizen's arrest and sat on him till the police arrived.
That will teach him to try to make a joke with a stranger. The cheek of the man.
