To not want to spend ££££ on dds bedroom furniture

I want some nice quality, unisex, coordinating bedroom furniture. Anything that is reasonably priced is chipboard crap, and the decent stuff is sooooo expensive.

Where did you get your kids furniture from?

Unfortunately, we did try the crap route, and regretted it as doors didn't shut properly, drawers didn't standing etc. Then we bit the bullet and paid for decent furniture - great little trading company, White company etc, but they now have decent furniture that is built to last. Got White stuff so will go with everything as they grow older. Next furniture is good to as they do some soild wood pieces. Good luck :)

Their beds were from Kiddicare. They don't have any drawers or wardrobes as we're too poor at the moment. We have organised piles!

why not just get solid wood furniture (even second hand) and then paint in to coordinate?

That Noah stuff is fabulous toughas but Cromer it's pretty expensive!!

Dd's bed is from John Lewis. It wasn't that much more expensive that Ikea but looks a lot nicer. They delivered quickly and it's withstood a year of use abuse so far. Her drawers and wardrobe are from Ikea (the drawers are hemnes, not sure about the wardrobe) and they are fine after 3.5 years, apart from little pieces of laminate flaking off the bottom of the chest of drawers, I think from me being careless with the Hoover!

For years we had the plain unfinished wood stuff from Ikea in our bedroom (you know those £20 chests of drawers etc)... they did the job.

They're now stained and varnished and look INCREDIBLY posh in my mum's bathroom holding all her towels and stuff (my mum being of the school of thought that you need like 30045billion towels for a household of two... don't know why all the fucking women in my family bar me are obsessed with buying berluddy towels - my nan was exactly the same). Could do similar - even buy some nice snazzy girlie knobs (that sentence sounds sooo Ann Summers - sorry) and put those on instead of the normal ones and paint them up. Like I say our old ones look really really good stained to match my mum's bathroom and you'd never guess they were cheapo crappo specials.

Was going to say cromer is cheap, holt is dearer.

Argos have a more expensive range. We got ds that and the difference in quality between that and the wardrobe we got dd in the cheaper range is amazing

I bought sone cupboards and draws cheap off eBay, kind of ply wood, a bit 70 ish looking, and painted them and put on new knobs and they look pretty good, even if I so say do myself

Little chest of draws was £10. Tallboy thing was £15. Tin of posho paint £20 or somthing. Knobs £1 each ish

And I can retouch bangs and chips or change the colour easily if need be

Invest in a hand held sander and a whole new world of painted furniture opens up

Nope you aren't being unreasonable! I'm about to go down the 2nd hand route and a tin of sage green or dick egg paint route myself!

Having said that Asda of all places has some nice £5 or £8 wood stools and bean bags on their web site.

I got a couple of those plastic drawer sets for my sons clothes and bits. They were £16 each. He has an old wardrobe but I'm getting rid of it to give him more space. I will just hang anything that needs hanging in my room.

I got ours second hand and painted some of it. Our local tip has an outlet and sells lovely solid old furniture for a fiver.

Yep, a second vote for the tip. My dd has a wardrobe that looks like the gateway to Narnia that cost about 20 quid. I got all my solid wood stuff from there, painted it white and voila. I refuse to buy flat pack shite now after I had so many chests of drawers just collapse. My wardrobe is from the 40s and solid as anything.

BooBoo so does my dd it has a lovely carved top with scrolls and flowers we love it.

Liking the tip idea. Will see if my local council have a reysling scheme. Love those batty old wardrobes:)
