i just want a hairdresser who can listen !

Usual trip to hairdresser ! I just wanted a trim , have been growing out awful layers for the last year and it was nearly gone !

Have thick wavy hair , it sits better with a blunt cut so it swings ,and has weight to pull it straight.

Have asked hairdresser , not to use straighteners as i do not use them .I hate the plastered to your head look that over-enthusiastic straightner using hairdressers seem to love !They dry out the hair and

I asked if she could cut 3 inches to trim the bottom of my hair to get rid of the last of the horrible layers .Layers are a big big mistake for me ...they make my hair grow outwards and upwards

im absentmindedly looking at magazine...

Snip snip is getting a bit frantic , i look up ..hairdresser is cutting layers in my hair !
"STOP CUTTING MY HAIR ! "
I tell her i did not want layers , i was growing them out ...she replies ive done one side i have to do the other side now or it wont be even ." Then she gets out the ghds and starts straighting even though i said i did not want that .

She then proceeds to give me a parting above my left temple and halfway up the top of my head and tells me shes just going to do my fringe !

WTF ? i Never asked for a fringe and ,enough is enough ...i told her a big thick ugly side fringe is ridiculous on a 16 yr old and theres no way that im going to let her do that ....shes ruined my hair enough.

I paid the reseptionist and escaped.

Does anyone know where i can buy a decent wig/hat that i can wear until this monstrosity grows out ?

Not unreasonable, no. This sort of thing, but not quite as extreme, happens to me and friends a lot. I actually think there would be a market for a Good Hairdresser guide, with Listening, and Doing What I Want, or Giving me a Good Reason as part of the criteria.

Good salons work on a star system - look for a 5 star salon, expect to pay a bit but after having similar experiences as you describe I will only go to a 5 star salon now as they all include a proper consultation.

I have thick hair and need the weight to hold it down but have it deep cut(sort of cut underneath the top layer) so the weight is still there but I don't look like Crystal Tips when it rains!

You paid? I wouldn't have done if I had specifically told them not to layer it...it's their mistake.

Also, how did the hairdresser manage to get the GHDs near your hair? Surely as soon as you saw them, you said no?

She said she had to run them over to see if the layers were straight ...
i did previously aske her if she could cut /style without useing them ..so i gave in there .

The layers i had that were growing out were another mistake , but my own fault ,i asked for them when i wanted an undercut

why did you pay? why did you let her continue? why do people just because the are the hair dresser not speak up and say "oi bitch no"?
go ask to speak to the manager. he/she should refund your money and cut your hair until its to you liking for free.

Because she had cut it !!! ...the only way to fix this is to grow it out and cutting it more , which a fix job would have to be would make my hair ear length.

i feel like crying , it was past my shoulder blades.
Sad.

i shouldnt have paid ...i know that i just wanted out of there quickly as i had to do school run.I didnt really have time to argue.

I think the moral here is to not read a magazine while having your hair cut. Be vigilant at all times if you are so specific over what you want!

I would go to a salon ( a good one from the guide) and explained what happened and see if they can 'tidy it up' a bit and make it nice while it's growing out.

And I am horrified at having to straighten hair to see if the layers were straight?????????? What the bloody fuck?????!

I've never used a salon guide but just go by recommendations. When I've had hairdressers not listen to me in the past they've usually been in the salons who think they are a bit trendy and better than their customers.

I stick to the down to earth salons who have the same customers returning again and again because they do what they want rather than what the hairdresser wants or can't be arsed to do.

Call the manager now before they leave for the day. If you don't complain,they won't improve. Businesses need feedback to improve. Nothing worse than a bad haircut for making you upset,well obv there are but it can be pretty devastating. Explain exactly what happened to the manager or owner & say you expect to be able to relax with your instructions followed without watching like a hawk. A good salon will want to put it right,if you don't want a cut then ask for a refund.
Strike whilst the (ghd) iron is hot!

Ring the salon tomorrow and ask to speak to the manager, explained what happened and that your really upset with it and ask for your money back so you can get it sorted somewhere else.

Ive had this before, i was having highlights and the lady left the colour on for to long and all my hair was damaged. I had burns at the bottom of my neck and my hair was completely white, not a good look at 19!

I just left and called the next day, they offered to fix it which i refused as i had no faith in their salon staff so i went somewhere else to get it sorted and they paid the bill for it and gave me a refund

I had this happen to me before. One hairdresser razored my hair and it looked like I had a mullet when I did it myself although it looked fine when they did it. I went back and got my money back and the head stylist (pah!) tried to sort it then ended up in another salon crying in the corner with a box of tissues. Yours wasn't how you wanted it beofre you left so ring or go back.

Now when I get my haircut I always say 'This is how I want it. If you cut any more than I have asked, or do anything else I did not request I will NOT pay.

Never had any problems since.

Oh there's nothing worse than the trauma of hairdressers. You have my sympathy. I have to say I find EITHER the cheapy local ones, or the expensive 5 star salons work, but nothing in between.

Perhaps ask people who have good hair where they get it done? They'll be well chuffed you think their hair looks good and will almost always give you their hairdresser's number immediately.

It's cutting the ends of the hair to make them less heavy but without making hair frizzy if that makes sense? They snip 'into' the ends of the hair especially underneath so thick hair lies better.

Call The Beauty Works in Corstorphine and ask for an appointment with Eileen, I've used her for over 14 years and she's always listened and even when I told her "Do what you want, I don't care!" she replied "the last time I did that you cried for months!" She will listen and offer what's good. Plus she's great with thick hard to manage hair.

Ah, ok, thanks valium. And a hairdresser will know what I mean if I ask for this? I'm not being loyal to anyone at the moment with varying failure. Last one bored looking 17 year old used one of those razor/combs that you'd use to get poo out of sheep's wool. Hair looks shit. But that undercutting thing sounds familiar so must have been done sometimes.

Not necessarily but a good one will. Since I have been going to the 5 star places they all seem to know what it is but I have been to one and she just stared at me blankly Grin God, using a razor is the kiss of death on my hair it 's awful if that is used!

I bet you've been to Toni & Guy.They only know how to do one haircut so you're screwed if you want something different.

I go to Stacy at debbie stevenson hair in linlithgow. she is lovely, does my hair exactly like I want, blunt cut and absolutely no product on my hair and no slick heads. I pay £65 for a full head of highlights and cut and blow dry. You need to book well in advance, and she is quite young but don't let that put you off! She is very down to earth and not at all "hairdressy" in that she dresses normally and isn't full of nonsense.
