A friend and I had been discussing movies and he mentioned a horror movie I have not heard of before so stupid me googled the sypnosis on Wikipedia and I now feel very sick!

I won't go into it and won't mention the movie incase anyone else feels the need to google (if you are nosey like me [blush)) but like I say I have actually thrown up twice and my mind keeps wandering back to it, he was laughing saying well I should've warned you about that but it's only a movie.

I guess he's right but surely I'm not the only one who gets disturbed by what I can only describe as horrific movies?!

Yanbu.

My darling boy (he was 16) watched one of the 'extreme' horror films with a group of mates at someone's house. He hated it but they all sat through it, apart from one girl who couldn't take it, and left part-way through. DS had nightmares for weeks later and had to sleep with the light on. Sad

It sickens me that some people see this as entertainment.

I used to like horror films - especially Nightmare on Elm Street, Aliens, Poltergeist etc. Since having kids, I've become a bit more sensitive to them and tend to avoid them.

I've just read the synopsis to the film being discussed here and agree it is a disgusting plot line and really have to wonder about the writers / directors sanity. There are much better ways of showing the horror of war and conflict (The Constant Gardner and Welcome to Sarajevo spring to mind as particularly good examples).

However, it does not make me feel sick because it is not real and to physically throw up after reading the plot seems a little extreme (and I say this as a pregnant bundle of hormones who nearly threw up watching American Pie 3 the other day). Watching it would be a different matter, but I would never go there anyway.

Now the articles in the press today about the guy in Birmingham who raped a toddler or anything that contains details of what happened to Baby Peter or James Bulger always makes me physically nauseous and close to throwing up because they are real.

Spiders my friend and I normally enjoy watching movies together whether they are scary/funny/romcoms whatever but he mentioned this and there was no way I could imagine what it was about! I thought it would be just another slasher movie.

I don't know why I did'nt stop reading, it's just one of those things!

What a rediculous comment to make about saving my vitrol for the actual perps... of course I have an issue with them, far more than any movie but the fact is I did'nt think that there would legally be a film showing these crimes quite graphically!

Fifi - Did'nt even realise there was a trailer, no chance I would even look at the writing again never mind anything else.

Miranda - when i was 8 i slept at my friends house and her dad had a pirate copy of a nightmare on elm street when it was 1st released. We hid in the passage and watched half of it until he seen us. My mam said it took months for me sleep. She would find me on the landing as i wouldnt sleep on the bed.

PaisleyLeaf · 07/06/2011 22:35

I saw the Human Centipede when it was on TV recently.
I thought it was naff and the acting was so bad the plot so corny, it was all so silly - it was like a spoof.

spiderslegs · 07/06/2011 23:11

Buuuut DingleDangle, they're not showing crimes, they're showing a representation of crimes, there are many mainstream, nay, respected films that have graphic representations in them.

It is, however, just that, a representation. I can't stand torture porn, I think it's vile but I deal with this by simply steering clear of it. There are films however that are graphic & uncomfortable viewing that actually tell us something about the human condition.

As for misery porn, agreed Beertricks, I find it far more pernicious than any of this tripe.

needanewname · 07/06/2011 23:41

keeps mouse away from google!!!

wubblybubbly · 08/06/2011 08:22

I'm aware that the film is meant to represent the horrors of war. I'm aware it is intended to depict the horrific abuse that happens as a result. I have no doubt it goes on, but I really don't want to watch it. I don't even want to read about it, sorry.

I really don't need to be convinced that war is shit and achieves nothing worthwhile. I think I can get that without having to watch this. I'm sure most people can. Why would anyone would need to see something this graphic to understand that? It makes no sense to me.

cannydoit · 08/06/2011 10:02

ok i just watched it to see what was up. and its shit, a bit what the fuck in places but completely unbelievable and basically stupid someone attempting to get fame from shock value and doing it badly. i thought irreversible was a much worse film, mostly because i wasnt expecting it but because it was believably real and disturbing. i watched that got up took the dvd out and then broke it in half because i never wanted to see it again. this was just stupid. obviously it alludes to some unpleasant things but again just trying to shock for shocks shake.

cannydoit · 08/06/2011 10:03

huh wubby its about porn as far as i know unless i just watched the wrong film?

DingleDangleDiva · 08/06/2011 10:26

Cannydoit - Glad it was'nt as graphic as the description made out but still defo not for me. It took me ages to get to sleep last night because my imagination kept throwing up images!

Oh well it normally takes a lot to shock me but for some reason his has stuck. The more I think about it today though it is just a movie and no I shall not be watching :)

As I understand it ASF is supposed to be saying if you're Serbian you are f*cked from the cradle to the grave. It really is a shitty little film.

I agree with PaisleyLeaf, HC was more like a spoof.

Why watch them? Because I always think they can't be as bad as the hype. You know that it's a film, you know it isn't real. Neither of those films made me suspend disbelief.

I also agree with cannydoit, Irreversible was more shocking and believable. I watched that because it had the guy out of Black Swan in it. I thought he was good so looked up other films he's been in.

Other films I found disturbing are 127 Hours & Buried.

CareyFakes · 08/06/2011 10:44

I'd say your reaction was a little extreme. How do you cope with life in general?

I read more horrors in the daily papers, and that shit is real and carried out by real people. I don't apply it to my own situation or life therefore it has little effect in the way I react.

Yes, they are not films I'd choose to watch but I wouldn't react like that.

needanewname · 08/06/2011 11:10

OK I knwo I shouldnt but I did - and you are right OP it is very sick. I also worry about what happens in these writers heads and where they ideas come from, however I do think your reaction was a little OTT.

I will never watch the film, I'm not usually a horror fan anyway but I realise that this is not real, I find myself getting far more upset over real events.

I'm guessing you read this at a time when you were particulalry sensitive and emotional.
