to not buy products for my "intimate area"

I was in Superdrug about a month ago and they were doing a 3 for 2 offer on toiletries for womens' "intimate area" eg soap, wipes, talc, deodorant. I couldn't believe how many women were throwing them into their basket. After this, I've made a habit of checking the bathrooms whenever I go to someone's house and these products do seem to be in the majority of them.
I'm now starting to get a bit paranoid because I don't use them. I do have a shower and change my undies every day. I'm so skint at the moment, AIBU not to fork out for fanjo toiletries?

I use mostly all of them too.
I use the femfresh wash when in the shower, use the deoderent when I come out and the wipes whenever I go to the toilet or feel sweaty.

Even though I shower everyday it just would make me feel rank not using them, but I am quite OTT when it comes to my own personal hygene (I started to get BO very, very young and was bullied because of it).

So while I know I do it, it probably isn't good to clean this much.

SuePurblybilt · 07/06/2011 17:13

They always make me think of that bit in Jilly Cooper novels when Rupert C-B (for tis always he) discovers a 'sticky bush' from too much product. Maybe that had an early impression on me Grin.

Thingumy · 07/06/2011 17:14

You can get both in boots silvery

backwardpossom · 07/06/2011 17:14

That's not because the femfresh is keeping away thrush, it's probably because you are washing yourself too much with the ordinary soap when you've run out of it. It is massively important not to overwash that area of the body - it NEEDS bacteria to keep the fungus that causes thrush at bay.

I'm aware of that, allsaurusrex but honestly, I don't wash my bits with any product if I don't have Femfresh and still end up with thrush. I know it's not the femfresh that's keeping the thrush away, but hey, it's working for me, so I'll keep buying it.

shandyleer · 07/06/2011 17:17

Grin at "hidden delights".

Couple of people have mentioned talc - is it bad for you in some way? I always use it on ds, is it not good?

roz1982 · 07/06/2011 17:18

It seems to me as well that men would have have FAR more reason to use 'intimate areas' hygiene products - their bits hang down and get well sweatier; but they wouldn't dream of buying extra products to keep it fresh down there!! AND they are prone to smegma which smells absolutely vile!!!!! Nothing wrong with our natural scent, in fact, word on the street is, men actually PREFER it. Gets all thier juices flowing due to pheromones or summat.

DuelingFanjo · 07/06/2011 17:19

Never bought any, never will.

vintageteacups · 07/06/2011 17:20

They dry out the natural lubication your fanjo has to keep it clean and fresh Wink.

They are a scam and make you more susceptible to infections and yeast growth, lowering the PH balance.

The vagina is actually slightly acidic (she quotes the Doc off Embarrassing Bodies) and using 'intimate prds' on your fanjo only interupts the natural pH.

I use Tesco all over baby wash for everything - nothing strong at all, not even Dove (full of perfume!).

vintageteacups · 07/06/2011 17:21

I can't believe I used the fanjo Blush - I usually say 'Twinkle'.

roz1982 · 07/06/2011 17:22

I say 'fernando' vintageteacups but adore fanjo!!!!

vintageteacups · 07/06/2011 17:23

backwardpossum have you cut down on sugars (unnatural and natural)? You would greatly reduce your chances of getting thrush if you did.Smile

scarlettsmummy2 · 07/06/2011 17:25

what is the deoderent for??? why would you need that?? i feel very out of the loop here. Where do you put it? do you even have sweat glands in your bits??

backwardpossom · 07/06/2011 17:25

But I don't get thrush. That's the point Wink

I'd rather use Femfresh than cut out sugar, tbh!

"I agree with shatner" - I thought that was your name suggestion for a Men's Intimimate Area product

vintageteacups · 07/06/2011 17:30

Oh sorry - I didn't read it properly. Wink.

ShatnersBassoon · 07/06/2011 17:33

"" "I agree with shatner" - I thought that was your name suggestion for a Men's Intimimate Area product"

Shatners Bassoon and Ball Bath. It's a winner.

QueenofDreams · 07/06/2011 17:36

I don't buy them - just use clean water to sluice it all down. found soaps etc gave me thrush. It's amazing how people buy into stuff though. DP is convinced that thrush is caused by poor hygeine. I just cannot convince him otherwise.

fuzzpigFriday · 07/06/2011 17:37

Shandyleer - I've heard that talc gets stuck in places. You can breathe it in, which can't be good - IIRC, bakers are prone to emphysema due to inhaling flour particles, so it makes sense that talc may have a similar effect.

I've also heard relatively recently that it's not good to use it on your fanjo because it goes up Hmm and too much of it getting stuck there can cause cancer... Then again pretty much everything does according to the news. I still wouldn't use it though.

fuzzpigFriday · 07/06/2011 17:40

Reminds me of a sketch on 'not the 9 o'clock news' - Rowan Atkinson goes into a pharmacy and in a heavy foreign accent says "I vant a deodorant"

Mel Smith says "ball or aerosol?"

Rowan says "neither... I vant it for my armpits"

Tee hee :o

TimeWasting · 07/06/2011 17:41

Yep talc can collect in the ovaries etc, very bad for you. I knew a lady who had lump removed from behind her belly button and it turned out to be entirely talc.

I wouldn't dream of buying this stuff.

I also don't wear knickers at night.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 07/06/2011 17:48

Really, TimeWasting?

What had she been doing? Pouffing it straight up into her vagina?!? Confused

vintageteacups · 07/06/2011 17:52

Infacare in your bath as bubble bath and a good old swoosh around is fine.

BalloonSlayer · 07/06/2011 17:53

So upsylazy, has anyone actually caught you yet, peering into their bathroom cabinet and cataloguing what they are planning to anoint their vulvas with in the near future?

I hope you're one of my friends as I have a pregnancy test in my bathroom cupboard. That'd get your radar quivering.

TimeWasting · 07/06/2011 17:54

I don't think the belly button lump was related to vaginal dusting tbh. Grin

Nixea · 07/06/2011 19:18

I feel like a total scrunter now! I don't even use shampoo or conditioner - let alone fanjo polishing/cleaning/whiffing products!
