to not buy products for my "intimate area"

I was in Superdrug about a month ago and they were doing a 3 for 2 offer on toiletries for womens' "intimate area" eg soap, wipes, talc, deodorant. I couldn't believe how many women were throwing them into their basket. After this, I've made a habit of checking the bathrooms whenever I go to someone's house and these products do seem to be in the majority of them.
I'm now starting to get a bit paranoid because I don't use them. I do have a shower and change my undies every day. I'm so skint at the moment, AIBU not to fork out for fanjo toiletries?

YANBU. Most of them are not very good for you. But for anyone who suffers with thrush, Lactacyd is BRILLIANT!!! (It's not with the intimate/feminine stuff usually)

upsylazy · 07/06/2011 17:04

Just a thought, why don't a few of us come up with a range of toiletries for mens' "intimate area" and go on Dragons Den or something? I'm sure you girls (ironic) can come up with some great names. Or they could set it as a task in The Apprentice? I'm picturing the pitch now...

I don't wash my fanjo in ladies or comrades-am I doing something wrong?

reelingintheyears · 07/06/2011 17:04

There was an 'embarrassing bodies' with a woman who kept getting thrush and they told her to stop using all the chemicals.

SuePurblybilt · 07/06/2011 17:05

I do not buy them. I also do not buy pantyliners (what with being able to wash my pants and all). I don't think I ming.....

roz1982 · 07/06/2011 17:06

hahahahha! fanjo! Loves it. Fanjo toiletries really are just another way of playing on womens insecurities; the horrible notion that your fanjo might actually smell like.....A FANJO!!!

PfftTheMagicDragon · 07/06/2011 17:06

I had no idea this stuff existed!

SuePurblybilt · 07/06/2011 17:06

oooooo, it so should be an Apprentice task. They could make an advert.

Thingumy · 07/06/2011 17:06

I agree with shatner.

Using wipes or a wash is perfectly acceptable.Personal choice isn't it?

cannydoit · 07/06/2011 17:06

hahahahahahahahahsaha Grin at amusing typo.

roz1982 · 07/06/2011 17:07

and if there is an untoward smell down there, you wanna get to your docs, not superdrug.

MenaZovut · 07/06/2011 17:07

I have never noticed this stuff!

Can imagine suddenly starting to use them would freak out surprise my husband.

winnybella · 07/06/2011 17:07

Vulva is NOT self-cleaning. I can't believe how many women on her think it is. You are supposed to wash your vulva with soap of some sort.

Vagina, obv. is self-cleaning.

I don't use any special products, just soap. I can see, though, that the ph-neutral gel might be good for people prone to thrush.

But deodorant? Hmm

SilveryMoon · 07/06/2011 17:07

I use them, all apart from the talc.
I wash with femfesh soap, then when I'm dry I spray my fanjo and knickers with the spray and then through the day, I'll give it the odd wipe.
I keep femfresh wipes in my handbag.
I do suffer quite badly with vaginosis though.........maybe becuse I'm using too much stuff? Hmm Confused

whomovedmychocolate · 07/06/2011 17:09

Oh good another area of housework I am falling behind on Hmm Grin

No of course YANBU

What's next underwire polish for your bra? Cankle support stockings? Hmm

AllTheYoungDoods · 07/06/2011 17:09

I think it's time for

EightiesChick · 07/06/2011 17:09

But the OP is asking if she is BU not to be buy them. So it's not about whether women who choose to buy them are unreasonable, it's asking if it's effectively expected. So I repeat, OP, YANBU and while some people might choose to buy these things, there is no need for anyone to feel they ought to.

roz1982 · 07/06/2011 17:10

silverymoon that sounds like hard work!!!

piratecat · 07/06/2011 17:10

how does one apply a fanjo deodorant is it like a roll on?! Confused

izzywhizzyletsgetbusy · 07/06/2011 17:10

If you shower/bathe and change your underwear regularly you would be BU to think you need them.

My hidden delights scrub up a treat with my usual showerwash and water, and you won't find any of those products in my bathroom as they are completely unnecessary unless recommended by a medic for a specific condition.

Thingumy · 07/06/2011 17:10

Silvery -try the lactacyd (and repHresh is also good for BV)

thomasbodley · 07/06/2011 17:11

In my early 20s, I had hideous recurrent thrush almost every month. Couldn't understand why - never eat sugar, shower daily, clean cotton undies daily, hardly ever wear tights etc. Eventually decided to abuse the Bupa subscription and got myself in front of a gynaecologist.

She told me to never use anything except water to clean my bits, and to dry them with a hairdryer rather than a towel Blush. It worked and I've probably had thrush about twice in the last decade.

LDNmummy · 07/06/2011 17:12

Any doctor will tell you its actually best just to use water as vagina's are self cleaning and these products can mess with your natural PH balance or cause a lot of irritation. I only use water as did all women before these product were invented and I find it works perfectly well.

SilveryMoon · 07/06/2011 17:12

Thanks Thingumy Will keep my eye out for them. Can I just get them in Boots?

roz1982 · 07/06/2011 17:12

ahahahah! alltheyoungdoods brilliant link!!!!
