To think that if I had abducted a child in a very high profile case a few years ago I would have at least changed the Childs name before going to the local play barn?

was with a friends child who has the same name as abducted child.

Whenever I called her name people actually turned and started before whispering between themselves.

Talk about feeling awkward!

I actually feel for parents who have this on a daily basis ( not as much as the Childs family of course!)

Sorry was not meaning that the parents should change the name.

Just that if I had done the crime surely I would not be shouting out for the child in the soft play area.

It just surprised me the reactions I got from a few tables when I have never had it for my own children.

Are you saying that you recognised an abducted child? I don't get it....

Pagwatch · 06/06/2011 21:03

I saw this thread then it disappeared
Very weird thread and very uncomfortable

JarethTheGoblinKing · 06/06/2011 21:03

I knew somebody who called his daughter Holly Jessica right after those two girls went missing.. which I thought was very unfortunate

MadamMemoo · 06/06/2011 21:03

This is complete bollocks

Shallishanti · 06/06/2011 21:03

I think I get it
do you mean, OP, that people should not have stared when you called child's name, because if in fact you WERE the abducting parent with the abducted child, you would most likely have changed his/her name, or at least not shout it out in public
therefore, people were stupid to stare
is that it?

mrsdonkeybucket · 06/06/2011 21:04

Did you make sure your children have names that are not the same as other abducted children ?

Fucking hell.

That's what I understood Shallishanti. She's got a point.

HauntedLittleLunatic · 06/06/2011 21:04

I think the OP is saying that she called out name X

Everyone looked "assuming" she was calling abducted X

But OP is confused because if abducted X was in the softplay barn it is more likely s/he would be called Y by now and therefore it is unlikely anyone being shouted X is not teh abducted X because abducted X has a new identity.

that is probably still as confusing>

DuelingFanjo · 06/06/2011 21:04

ok, so you know someone who has a child they have abducted? and you're posting on here rather than going ot the police?

troisgarcons · 06/06/2011 21:05

I wonder what happened to Ben Needham?

BrianAndHisBalls · 06/06/2011 21:05

op means that if she had abducted madeline then she would have changed the child's name and therefore the people staring at her in the soft play place shouldnt have stared because she'd more likely have been calling out 'jane' if it really was the abducted child and therefore obviously it wasnt the abducted child and therefore they didnt need to stare.

geddit?!

valleyqueen · 06/06/2011 21:05

My cousin is called Madeline, she is in her 30's.

Should she change her name?

DuelingFanjo · 06/06/2011 21:05

ah

I get it

you are upset about people's reactions because you think they thought you had abducted the child.

morbeus · 06/06/2011 21:05

So your friends have abducted a child but are still using the pre-abduction name?

sparkle12mar08 · 06/06/2011 21:05

I know exactly what you mean OP. Sadly people really are that nosy/voyeuristic/sad/ignorant that they would stare or whisper in that situation. I've seen it myself - a good (male) friend of ours has a blonde daughter with that name, two years older. We were in the local shopping centre together when he called her name at one point, and you should have seen the reactions he got. A pair of women were even pointing at him and one of them looked straight at the nearest security guard in the shop behind her. Some people really are like that.

BrianAndHisBalls · 06/06/2011 21:06

Dueling - no, she does not Grin

valleyqueen · 06/06/2011 21:07

I get it. Ignore last post :)

Northernlurker · 06/06/2011 21:11

Oh come on people:

The op went to playbarn with a child called maddie. She is not abducted.
The op called her name and everybody looked round to see if it was that maddie.
The op is pointing out that surely abductors would change a child's name not just carry on using the original.
Fwiw yes I agree with you Op but people are staggeringly dense sometimes so their reaction is not unsurprising.

piratecat · 06/06/2011 21:12

what shallishanti said.

i got what op meant.

Besom · 06/06/2011 21:12

How weird. It's not such an unusual name is it? I know at least one anyway.
