Mean to say the mobile mn site !

clam · 06/06/2011 22:09

Anyone know if you can get an iphone app which will take you straight there on the screen?

theidsalright · 06/06/2011 22:13

can MNHQ put the button for the mobile site at the top???

please?

sparkleshine · 06/06/2011 22:27

Also doofus here. Had no idea....it's soooo much better than trying to mess about with the screen each time a page loads. Would be easier for people to find if it was at the top of the discussion board though me thinks.

An app of course would be better

puffylovett · 06/06/2011 22:29

There's a MN mobile !!!!!!! How/where ....

puffylovett · 06/06/2011 22:33

Oo got it, fantastic!

Meglet · 06/06/2011 22:40

I'm almost hoping it doesn't work on my blackberry. Normal mumsnet has been slow on my phone for a while so I've only been on here through the computer.

annababy · 06/06/2011 22:56

Worrisomeheart you are not a doofus, you are a genius!
Why hasnt this been made more obvious before?!
Sooo much easier to read,Thankyou!

WorrisomeHeart · 07/06/2011 07:23

maryjane no idea re getting it on your Kindle and must admit I didn't even know you could browse the web on the kindle [hangs head in baby brain befuddled shame]

Actually thinking about it, wouldn't you just type in m.mumsnet.com into the browser?

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 07/06/2011 07:26

It was widely advertised when they created it about, oh, a year ago.

iPhone app is with Apple waiting for approval. It's completely out of MN's hands at this point.

Yes, I know all and see all. Wink

WorrisomeHeart · 07/06/2011 07:27

Ooh Tee thanks for the update re the app, how exciting!

If you have an iPhone- press the square box with the arrow at the bottom middle of the phone and select add to home screen and voila!

ChippyMinton · 07/06/2011 07:53

maryjane - kindle
on the home page (where your books are) press the menu button.
select 'experimental'
select 'launch web browser'
Click menu, select 'enter URL' to take you to the address bar or
navigate to the address bar using the arrow keys.
type in m.mumsnet.com, scroll to the oval box next to it and select 'go to'

You should be on mumsnet mobile.
Navigate around by using the arrow keys.
Move up and down pages using the page turning buttons on the side of the kindle.
Change text size as normal with the Aa button. It loses the setting when you load a new page though, which is annoying.
You can log in and set preferences as normal. EG i have highlighted text, one long page, and the OP at the top.
Bookmark it by clicking menu button.

You can also access other pages eg BBC new, google, wiki etc

It is a bit clunky but good for a sneaky MN in bed!

Bigglewinkle · 07/06/2011 14:33

Mobile mn is what keeps me sane when settling dd at night... Almost makes those hours in a darkened room fun. It does mean I'm now addicted to reading the aibu threads!!

Ruggettee · 07/06/2011 15:07

OMG! That's amazing!!

maryjanet · 07/06/2011 22:53

Thanks chippy Smile

khaleesi · 07/06/2011 22:56

that link is so incredibly tiny i tapped back 5 times before i got it! too lazy to zoom and scroll!

sunnydelight · 07/06/2011 23:43

Oh thank you so much!!! (and to Peg for saying how to add it to my home screen)

zipzap · 08/06/2011 00:10

another doofus here who also missed it despite being of a techy background.

maybe MN could publicise it for everyone else - what do you think about:

  1. add the link to the list of useful tools that comes up on the left (OK so not a tool in the same way as the others are but you could argue it would work in there)
  1. get a little message displayed the first time you visit the site from a mobile asking if you want the mobile version - lots of sites do this these days, and then store that as a preference along with other choices in your profile (and you could also then go change it as per other options)
  1. publicise it on the home page every now and then or in Mumsnet Latest when it's a bit quiet and they don't have much new to put in it...
zipzap · 08/06/2011 00:15

and to add to my previous list...

  1. Have a 'MN site tip of the week' little section that appears under recipe of the week, MN Local etc. Sure there is lots of stuff that is great on the site that most people don't discover! That there is a mobile version of MN can be on there every few months then as a reminder it is available.
  1. Stick this thread in Discussions of the day so a few more people get to discover it now at least Grin and get more feedback on how they would best like to discover/use MN mobile!
GetOrf · 08/06/2011 00:21

I can access the mobile site on my bberry, but I cannot post (says doesn't recognise my poster name, even though it is correct).

I have posted this to tech with no luck.
