Lying you seem to be taking about charisma in your earlier post, which is a different thing.

The alpha thing is based on dominance - alpha male means dominant male - as people have pointed out it comes from the animal kingdom (whether it can be applied to humans or not is a different question I think).

I said there were Alpha females too.

Yes there are plenty of people who are successful, but to rise to the top, especially in politics or anything significant, you have to be a certain type of person.
This really is quite simple - just look in your garden and see who's eating who.

Why should the biggest most aggressive predator be admired though? Using brute force and aggression to get what you want aren't qualities that I admire.

People at the top in politics are often right bastards/bullies, again I don't know what there is to admire there.

Fighting when you need to - when your family is under attack, when your locality is at war, when you need to in order to get your basic human rights met, is not a good thing, it is sometimes a necessary thing.

I cannot understand how anyone could think that brute force and aggression in and of themselves are desirable traits for people to have.

Saddam Hussein got to the top by ruthlessly killing his opponents.

That got his to the top of his hierarchical dominance tree.

Didn't make him an admirable person though.

It's a very hyper-masculine view, to idolise the violent and aggressive.

I prefer my men and my women to have traits like empathy, fairness, kindness, in addition to confidence and a healthy dose of competitivity. Being a thug or a bully is not something to aspire to IMO.
