UPDATES WANTED from how you all got along...
Found your useful thread - good to hear both sides.
My latter dog killed and ate cats that came into our garden. My dog, my garden, all my property. The cat, not mine, not classed as property. Even a judge stated once, the cat and dog are naturally sworn enemies. Normal.
Now I'm stuck in a flat, with a balcony window box; the local 'untrainable cat' see's it as it's toilet. The owner doesn't understand my frustration. I hate spending any money on the problem and can think of drastic solutions that would upset cat and owner, but would cost me nothing but my conscience. Fed up with it. Ironically, as a dog owner you should be ' responsible' for the dogs behaviour. Hence the licence. Maybe then this is why the 'property' issue is only for dogs, as they are trainable like this and should not be let out alone anyhow, unsupervised. Maybe this is why some see 'hurting' cats as more acceptable than hurting dogs.
Question to cat owners - I've tried spikey plants across the seedlings, which didn't work for the hardened cats, so how do I keep them off my lovely soft veggie patch without spending my money, against the cat? I have thought of billing my neighbour with the photographic evidence of their cat destroying my window box, keeping the cat poop in a bag for the owner, to be returned to them at some point.
I shall try the human urine around the area, maybe a little dog poop too. I've also made a large painted Tiger Head with flickering eyes!

I'm at the end of my tether with cat crap. All over the place. My daughter can't play in the garden because of it. I've started a petition epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/64576 loads of other countries have far better systems when it comes to people being responsible for their animals. This country should follow suit.

I am too old to now be a young mum with children, but I do have problems with the nasty cat poo. I do not accept the owners statements, that cats are wild so cannot be kept it. Dogs were/are wild, but the laws were changed to stop them roaming. The onus is on the owner. Are cat owners pleased with themselves that they could potentially have a pet that could blind a child, because they allowed their pet to crap in other peoples gardens. Would they be happy to have to clear up foul smelling cat shit every day. If they would not mind doing that, then keep your cat indoors and buy a cat litter tray. Put a lead on it and take it for a walk, then clear the muck up afterwards like dog owners have to.
I also urge all you mums to write to the Government Environment Health Minister. When I wrote he stated their did not appear to be a problem with cats, as they did not get many complaints. Write and keep writing until they get the message. I also suggest, that as you have to clear the muck up anyway, go and give it back to any of the local cat owners. Just throw it on their garden. or even better, front door step. Also, make sure you add your name to jraw123's petition.

At least if anyone hurts the cats by doing something like this the RSPCA can make them pay for any treatment

I had a cat crapping in my garden this summer (god only knows where it came from , I live in an isolated house with no neighbours).
Seriously, this bloody cat thought it appropriate to poo pretty much right outside my back door and yet we are surrounded by thousands of acres of farmland!!

Anyhow, he won't be bothering me again as (not entirely unexpectedly) two of my spaniels managed to catch it last month.

Most of it was actually eaten before I could get it off them.

I know this is an old thread that has re-started but reading it just winds me up.

Being a dog owner i am responsible for cleaning up after it, if not i could be fined, so why aren't cat owners?? All the stuff about cats not being owned etc to me is just crap, you choose to take on an animal (any animal) then you are responsible for feeding, health, cleaning up after it etc.

My dog poos in my garden and i clean it up (as i do if i take it to the park etc), i wouldnt expect/like to have to clean up the poo of a domestic cat that has an owner just because its allowed out to roam and the owner doesnt know where it is. would i be allowed to let my dog out to roam and do its business in other peoples gardens ? We all know that is a big fat NO! So why should cats be any different? They are a domestic animal just like a dog so the same rules should apply.

Oh and i've signed the petition.

I have 2 cats who go out when they please but they both do their poos in a litter tray. My neighbor has fake grass in her garden and chucks her cat out all day while shes at work and it jumps over the fence and shits in my garden. I don't like it at all, through the summer hols I had to keep picking up piles of stinking poo and was tempted to chuck it in her garden

Lynngarnham · 25/02/2018 14:59

Over the festive season I had 6 parcels of poo in my small front garden, just recently I have had plants broken, poo, so much poo I filled a 5L bag all over a couple of days.

Celticrose · 26/02/2018 10:38

my mums neighbour has cats which poo in her garden. She shovels it and puts it over the wall into his garden and why not.
