Over the festive season I had 6 parcels of poo in my small front garden, just recently I have had plants broken, poo, so much poo I filled a 5L bag all over a couple of days.

I have 2 cats who go out when they please but they both do their poos in a litter tray. My neighbor has fake grass in her garden and chucks her cat out all day while shes at work and it jumps over the fence and shits in my garden. I don't like it at all, through the summer hols I had to keep picking up piles of stinking poo and was tempted to chuck it in her garden

I know this is an old thread that has re-started but reading it just winds me up.

Being a dog owner i am responsible for cleaning up after it, if not i could be fined, so why aren't cat owners?? All the stuff about cats not being owned etc to me is just crap, you choose to take on an animal (any animal) then you are responsible for feeding, health, cleaning up after it etc.

My dog poos in my garden and i clean it up (as i do if i take it to the park etc), i wouldnt expect/like to have to clean up the poo of a domestic cat that has an owner just because its allowed out to roam and the owner doesnt know where it is. would i be allowed to let my dog out to roam and do its business in other peoples gardens ? We all know that is a big fat NO! So why should cats be any different? They are a domestic animal just like a dog so the same rules should apply.

Oh and i've signed the petition.

I had a cat crapping in my garden this summer (god only knows where it came from , I live in an isolated house with no neighbours).
Seriously, this bloody cat thought it appropriate to poo pretty much right outside my back door and yet we are surrounded by thousands of acres of farmland!!

Anyhow, he won't be bothering me again as (not entirely unexpectedly) two of my spaniels managed to catch it last month.

Most of it was actually eaten before I could get it off them.

At least if anyone hurts the cats by doing something like this the RSPCA can make them pay for any treatment

I am too old to now be a young mum with children, but I do have problems with the nasty cat poo. I do not accept the owners statements, that cats are wild so cannot be kept it. Dogs were/are wild, but the laws were changed to stop them roaming. The onus is on the owner. Are cat owners pleased with themselves that they could potentially have a pet that could blind a child, because they allowed their pet to crap in other peoples gardens. Would they be happy to have to clear up foul smelling cat shit every day. If they would not mind doing that, then keep your cat indoors and buy a cat litter tray. Put a lead on it and take it for a walk, then clear the muck up afterwards like dog owners have to.
I also urge all you mums to write to the Government Environment Health Minister. When I wrote he stated their did not appear to be a problem with cats, as they did not get many complaints. Write and keep writing until they get the message. I also suggest, that as you have to clear the muck up anyway, go and give it back to any of the local cat owners. Just throw it on their garden. or even better, front door step. Also, make sure you add your name to jraw123's petition.

I'm at the end of my tether with cat crap. All over the place. My daughter can't play in the garden because of it. I've started a petition epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/64576 loads of other countries have far better systems when it comes to people being responsible for their animals. This country should follow suit.

UPDATES WANTED from how you all got along...
Found your useful thread - good to hear both sides.
My latter dog killed and ate cats that came into our garden. My dog, my garden, all my property. The cat, not mine, not classed as property. Even a judge stated once, the cat and dog are naturally sworn enemies. Normal.
Now I'm stuck in a flat, with a balcony window box; the local 'untrainable cat' see's it as it's toilet. The owner doesn't understand my frustration. I hate spending any money on the problem and can think of drastic solutions that would upset cat and owner, but would cost me nothing but my conscience. Fed up with it. Ironically, as a dog owner you should be ' responsible' for the dogs behaviour. Hence the licence. Maybe then this is why the 'property' issue is only for dogs, as they are trainable like this and should not be let out alone anyhow, unsupervised. Maybe this is why some see 'hurting' cats as more acceptable than hurting dogs.
Question to cat owners - I've tried spikey plants across the seedlings, which didn't work for the hardened cats, so how do I keep them off my lovely soft veggie patch without spending my money, against the cat? I have thought of billing my neighbour with the photographic evidence of their cat destroying my window box, keeping the cat poop in a bag for the owner, to be returned to them at some point.
I shall try the human urine around the area, maybe a little dog poop too. I've also made a large painted Tiger Head with flickering eyes!

I hate having to clean cat shit out of my garden daily and I begrudge the hundreds of pounds I've spent of repellents over the last year.

Totally different point if view from the cat lovers / owners but fuck it, it strong pepper stops me from having to throw away my home grown veg or feeling sick as I'm shovelling your cats shit out of my flower beds then I'll be buying in the bucket load. Lots cheaper than lion dung which only lasts until rain or sonic repellers which don't work.

I'f you won't deter your cat then don't get snitty when I do.

Did I say that miscarriage was not important?

NO.

There are more important things in life than hanging out the window with your binoculars and spreadsheet of what cat shit in your garden and when, which is what alot of people on here seem to do.

"Ooohh, Dave, that Ginger from next door has just shat in the bushes again!!"

"Really Maud, oh god, write it down quick!! We'll get them!"

That is what some of you sound like.

"Funny, I dont remember that on the news"

Do you think every avoidable death is reported on the news?

Please go on mumsnet miscarriage board and ask if they think there are more important things in life. There are ladies on there who have had late losses due to toxoplasmosis.

I used to go to toddler group with a lady who had a stillborn daughter at 34 weeks due to toxoplasmosis,it was awful and I admit I am paranoid and was when I was pregnant about cats .

drivemecrazy63 · 03/06/2011 19:40

actually it is dangerous to children too if injested ie your dc puts their fingers on mouth after touching it as well as a risk to pregnant women hence as a cat breeder i wear rubber gloves when cleaning the litter tray and picking it up after other owners including the bozo who thinks its great to let there rather large pooch poo on my lawn and leave it there

lubberlich - I don't know. I had assumed mine would be a good idea too, but my partner thinks that female hormones will just encourage them! :) Try it with your son - you can always ask him to wee into a bottle and you spread it about a few times.

ive tom cats in the cattery outside in the garden it doesnt stop other cats and neither does the two dogs btw but a bottle 2 lit coke refilled with water is supposed to work they dont like the reflections apparently but i dont fancy bottles in my garden flower bed so not tried it

i have both cats and dogs i dont find it a problem to do a poo check everyday before letting my children out to play in our garden (my cats are an indoor breed though as i breed ragdolls) and because there is an obvious dangerous health risk to dcs & there are about 4 cats that frequent my back garden that belong to neighbours it seems the most sensible albeit a bit time consuming thing to do.

I've just sprinkled the cayenne (and it was Schwarz as well!) and will send DH out to pee tonight Grin

The garlic stuff is awful, the only thing it repelled was us

G1nger - Does it have to be grown up bloke wee or will little boy wee do as well? Not sure if encouraging DS to slash all over the garden is the wisest of moves.

Anyone thought about sending their male partners out there to 'mark territory' with wee? Works for keeping foxes out.

Our garden is a communal litter tray for all the cats in the neighbourhood.
(The joys of living in a terrace with back to back gardens.)
I dream of the day I can just let my 4yr old DS out of the back door to play in the garden without having to clean up a sack of cat shit first.
EVERY sodding day we have to do it. I have to buy poo bags specifically to clean up other people's cat shit.
I am seriously considering pooling the crap, then dividing it up and delivering it BACK to all the cat owners in the street on a weekly basis.

What rubbish so a cat killed a lady and her baby? is that what you are saying?

Funny, I dont remember that on the news Hmm

Quite frankly, all the cat hating on here is driving me mad. Its quite simple, dont roll around on the grass when you are pregnant and im sure you will be fine.

If you hate it that much, get a tom cat, they wont come anymore.

There are more important things in life.
