Smoking and dogs not on a lead at busy forest park

I am a childminder and was at a forest park today which was very busy with half term kids and parents / carers / childminders.

One woman had a cigarette at a picnic table which was full of kids and adults. So firstly, AIBU in thinking that she should have moved away from everyone if she wanted to smoke even though it was outside? Considering the number of children around I think she should have moved, but then we were outside. I detest the smell and am getting over a lousy cough so the smoke for me was horrendous. So I fear I may BU about this!

Secondly, another woman had a staffie running around fairly close to her, but the dog was scaring my childminded kids. The dog did not jump up or growl or do anything other than run around madly like dogs do when they are excited. Second AIBU: to think that again because there were so manyt children around the dog should have been on a lead? The notice board at the forest said dogs to be on leads or closely supervised. This dog remained quite close to its owner, but did run around very excitedly.

Aibu in both instances? Fear I may be.....

teh dog was being closely supervised and as you said was only running around, not growling or jumping.

Mybe the rules should be that nobody else is allowed to leave the house at the same time as you op ?

Sorry to say YABU - I don't like the smell of smoke either, but people are still allowed to smoke outside, yes even when there are children present! And sounds like the dog was being supervised as required and not causing any danger or nuisance.

YANBU to be a bit stressed by it all though!

yikes! "outrage" ? Hardly outrage, Yukoncher. Just a reasonable request in asking if I was being unreasonable. i suspected that I WAS being unreasonable, and I now feel that I HAVE been. Annoyed by the smoking? Yes. Outraged? Nope.
Mildly concerned about a dog running around, yes. Outraged? Nope.

Did you check the food the children were eating?

If you had, you might have been able to add "AIBU, there were Fruit Shoots and chocolate biscuits in their lunchboxes"

I think they should build smoking rooms in open air spaces so us smokers can be fucking left in peace.

Where is the forest park? If it's one of the Southern ones they are all as dry as a pharaoh's sock at the moment and I think the rangers would take a very dim view of smoking.
