OP posts:
Glitterknickaz · 31/05/2011 20:25

I loved it, but had to give up after I had a car accident with whiplash injury... got an office job after that and stayed in that line.

OldMacEIEIO · 31/05/2011 20:25

look, actual people do the bad stuff. maybe they are here.
someone does it ? no ?

stating that we want everyone to be well looked after , well fed etc etc
who is going to disagree ?
it's pure MN sanctimonious bull

Mabelface · 31/05/2011 20:28

There's fuck all wrong with stating that we want everyone well looked after - it's their basic human right. If you don't like MN, then fuck off to somewhere you do like. You sound like someone who thinks that people who need care just ought to get on with it.

Mabelface · 31/05/2011 20:29

Oh, and just because people do bad stuff, it does not make it right, and if there is something that can be done to rid the industry of the rot, then that is a good thing. It's only when people speak out that these things come to light.

Glitterknickaz · 31/05/2011 20:30

This poster is the kind of poster I alluded to in my first post on this thread.
Knew it would happen.
It is now acceptable in this country to say the most disgusting things about people in a worse situation than yourself. It's very sad.

OldMacEIEIO · 31/05/2011 20:34

why should I leave ?
Sanctimonious piety is the least dangerous form of spouting crap that the world has ever seen.
noone can disagree with you
noone can argue with you

you basically try to put yourself on an unassailable pinacle without actually moving the debate forward

Tony Blair was good at it

Glitterknickaz · 31/05/2011 20:35

Why is mentioning incidents we have direct experience of that are relevant to the thread not moving the debate forward?
At least we're not posting inflammatory shite for the hell of it.

ScousyFogarty · 31/05/2011 20:37

Yes, Pinot, I suppose it is

OP posts:
Primalscream · 31/05/2011 20:38

I will watch panorama but it won't be groundbreaking journalism - we've seen it all before - sadly.

Mabelface · 31/05/2011 20:38

Where is the debate? I haven't entered a debate, I merely made a comment on an industry that I had worked in and entered a conversation mainly with glitterl. You, however, have come along and insulted me. I am neither sanctimonious nor pious, and do not consider myself perfect. You, however, appear to consider yourself the the authority on all. I stand by if you don't like it, then go elsewhere.

What is your issue with people needing care? Do you have personal experience? Have you worked in the industry? Maybe been fired for poor practice?

OldMacEIEIO · 31/05/2011 20:39

glitter , lets get the facts of what happened, then we can talk about it

but lets forget the sanctimonuious crap that I first read here ten years ago (ish)

how many times do I have to read 'oh I think we should look after the vulnerable' sheesh, as ifwe all didnt agree

Glitterknickaz · 31/05/2011 20:40

Some DON'T agree though.

Mabelface · 31/05/2011 20:40

Including your good self, it would appear!

usualsuspect · 31/05/2011 20:41

Its very low paid ..which is appalling really ,considering the responsibility that goes with the job

usualsuspect · 31/05/2011 20:42

I think we should stick them all in institutions ..is that better OldMacEIEIO

QuintessentialOldMoo · 31/05/2011 20:45

Do you know, do they usually steal the patients clothes?

My mum has only been in an institution since before Easter, she has no clothes left. I spent a fortune on new clothes for her, and it is all gone, and she is wearing rags, poor mum. Sad

Glitterknickaz · 31/05/2011 20:47

I know that my step nan's toiletries generally went 'missing'.

Glitterknickaz · 31/05/2011 20:48

Mind you if they were new clothes they might have been sold on ebay by the staff Sad

Primalscream · 31/05/2011 20:49

Hmm - a doctor said to me once 'people live too long these days'
there is definitely an attitude of / ' oh Fgs you're 85 will you just go now '
Even within the NHS

Glitterknickaz · 31/05/2011 20:50

Well I'm going to try to watch but I don't know if I'll stomach it.

Witchofthenorth · 31/05/2011 21:25

I am absolutely disgusted ! I have nothing else to say on the matter, they should all be locked up! And I am only half way through the program.

keepingupwiththejoneses · 31/05/2011 21:29

I am watching it now! I feel sick and am sobbing. I maybe a little more sensitive to this because I have a son with autism but still, anyone who doesn't find this totally unacceptable is beyond all help. Sickening!

FabbyChic · 31/05/2011 21:33

I couldn't watch something like this as it would make me boil with rage, and there is no one to rant at.

Witchofthenorth · 31/05/2011 21:34

I dont understand what part of all that the care workers found acceptable! They wouldn't do that to somebody who could answer or hit back! It is just disgusting..........I just want to go and fight for them.....

ginmakesitallok · 31/05/2011 21:42

I agree with OldMaceieio - where's the debate? Everyone agrees that it's wrong to treat vulnerable people badly and that it's unacceptable. I don't think the NHS/care homes are full of evil people who get up in the morning and think "Right, today I'm going to abuse an old person." I do think there are thousands of ordinary people who are going to do a job which is underrated, repetitive, low paid and pretty shite.

In relation to people living too long - well lots of people do - lots of people are kept alive, with no quality of life just because medicine is capable of it.
