Just wondered if anybody else is worse off since they came into power?
i work 16 hours a week as single parent
Child care is £88 a week term time and £120 half term.
In april i had my tax credits cut by £65 a week!
I am really really struggling at the moment.
Just wondered if anyone else is the same ?
I dont just mean single parents and mean families too !

but i cant understand why labour allowed these things to go on

never said that their not worth anything just that their not degrees and should be taught in a technical collage for the last time or done in on the job training.

really flying found numerous mistakes in your posts you might want to have a look at those before correcting others

ManateeEquineOhara · 02/06/2011 20:32

Why can't you understand it? You cannot comment on the value of degrees that you consider to be of little value when you know nothing about the subjects and the way they are taught, the degree of transferable skills or the way in which they may be valued within certain industries and therefore be highly relevant and vocational.

And really, I am amazed you are telling me to check my own spelling ON the forum, have you quit pm'ing me? They were amusing :)

ManateeEquineOhara · 02/06/2011 20:33

Oh - AND at degree level. For someone with a degree in boozing and winking, you cannot say what is and isn't degree level.

TheFlyingOnion · 02/06/2011 20:37

equine studies Manatee - I'm so totally jealous!! I was a groom for a while and seriously considered the course....

maypole I'll be calling you "chip" from now on.

What's up, Chip? Grin

maypole1 · 02/06/2011 20:39

i be calling you pot now

hello pot

ManateeEquineOhara · 02/06/2011 20:42

The course was great Onion. At school I had dreamed of every lesson being something to do with horses, and was amazed when I found that such a place existed! :)

maypole1 · 02/06/2011 20:42

ManateeEquineOhara yeah i know it was really funny when you were trying to correct me when having all those errors yourself i was having a right laugh

TheFlyingOnion · 02/06/2011 20:43

sounds amazing

All I ever wanted to be was a riding instructor, then my dad got involved and I ended up as a lawyer and hated it.

Now I'm way too sensible to think I can live on a riding instructor's wage, so I teach RDA and get my kicks that way...

ManateeEquineOhara · 02/06/2011 20:44

No, I meant that you were pm'ing me with incorrect 'corrections' :) Which is odd as you were so ready to agree with Wordfactory that we "Shouldn't criticise people for their grammar" Hmm

ManateeEquineOhara · 02/06/2011 20:52

It was great, but like you said, not enough money. Unless of course you get a 'Mickey Mouse Degree' in something like say....Equine Psychology. Then you could freelance and advise, top riders, the big shows, tack companies, feed manufacturers, colleges, give lectures. It'd be great :)

Takeresponsibility · 02/06/2011 20:58

Ladies, Xenia's ishooo is actually that when spouse A a high earner, and spouse B a low earner divorce then spouse A has to keep spouse B. This results in a great loathing for all housewives and stay at home parents who might fleece the hard working career person.

Her beef is not with you but with her ex husband, who was awarded a big lump sum of "Xenias" money in the divorce, even though prior to the divorce (which he didn't want) he took an equal share of looking after the children and they both agreed that he would stay in his teaching career so she could take of with her high flying legal career.

TheFlyingOnion · 02/06/2011 21:01

amerons mob are fibbing like drunkenjackdaws They even lie about saving money on the disabled Charities loath them. Second hand car salesman in cabinet

TheFlyingOnion · 02/06/2011 21:21

oh lord here comes scousy with the usual non-partisan reasoned argument....

do drunken jackdaws fib?

Xenia · 03/06/2011 12:13

(That's not correct. We were a couple who both worked full time and both were higher rate tax payers. Neither of us made a career sacrifice for the other)

HHLimbo · 04/06/2011 00:12

Scousy "Second hand car salesmen in cabinet" - thats exactly what I thought today.

Tories = second hand car salesmen.

Chen23 · 04/06/2011 09:37

Dont worry,

The guy in charge of the nations finances isn't a second hand car dealer

Apart from working at conservative central office Baron Gideon Osborne has had 2 other jobs; a summer job dong data entry for the NHS and a short spell folding towels at Selfridges.

All very reassuring.

AlpinePony · 04/06/2011 09:41

Chen - as opposed to Gordon Brown bouncing rent cheques when he was younger?

AlpinePony · 04/06/2011 09:41

And er... never having had a job - be it data-entry or selling towels?

LadyOfTheCuntryManor · 04/06/2011 09:44

In terms of petrol prices I'm worse off but that's about it.

I think you should remember that they had to make the cuts, as Labour were encouraging peoples' sense of "entitlement"; and the system was out of control. I'm glad all the cuts were made. There are many countries where free money isn't handed out left, right and centre.

AlpinePony · 04/06/2011 09:49

The "left" should actually be delighted with the rise in commodities - after all, it means that these commodities are now being shared with people throughout the world rather than being hogged by "the west"! Wink Equality for all!

DillyDaydreaming · 04/06/2011 09:49

Maybe if GB was bouncing rent cheques when he was younger it reflects his poverty at the time as opposed to Gideon Upward's wealth - can't see this is relevant tbh.

I am worse off but think this would have happened whoever was in power. I don't buy the "Labour were useless" line as there is a worldwide recession - no matter who was in power we'd all be in the same position now.

For me the biggest issue is that they are removing my lease car in December when the lease is up and not renewing it. Hardly anyone is getting them - this will effectively mean I cannot do my job which is community based unless I increase my hours massively to meet the new mileage requirements. I cannot do this as my part time hours reflect the need I have to support my son who is autistic. Without extra hours and cash I also cannot afford to buy a car. Come January it may not only be GB who has "bounced rent cheques" - but then again I could always go onto benefits b ut am guessing people will moan about that too.

DillyDaydreaming · 04/06/2011 09:51

Woohoo - "Free Money" - where do I sign? Grin

DillyDaydreaming · 04/06/2011 09:56

Petrol prices have increased
Food prices have increased
Clothing prices have increased

Am definitely worse off but still just about managing by shopping around.
Poundland do 4 pints of milk for £1.
Ebay have some good boys clothes and I buy clothes form there too.
Charity shops and libraries provide cheap ways of indulging my music and reading interests.

It's a recession, we will get through it

Admittedly the car is an issue - can do a private lease but won't get the favourable terms my employer could negotiate so will need to find extra on top for insurance which my employer has negotiated as part of my current package. On the positive side I will get mileage paid again which ironically will probably end up costing my employer more which is why they pushed the lease car scheme in the first place. C'est la vie.
