to be ridiculously excited about having a cleaner start on Thursday?

That's it really. I've fantasised about having a cleaner for ages but have finally taken the plunge and she is starting on Thursday. I've met her and am really hopeful that she's going to be great (though am preparing myself for teething problems etc.)

I feel that this may transform my life!! (not to be over-dramatic or anything) Grin

Our cleaner saves my sanity. She comes once a week and cleans for 2.5 hours. The floors are washed downstairs, loos and bathrooms cleaned, hoovered upstairs/ where there is carpet and dusted all over. If I want a deep clean for eg kitchen, bathroom fine, she will change beds if linen left and will do ironing if needed. £10 ph seems cheap to me. I complained once when she sub-contracted and it wasn't done well and since then, she has done it herself! It makes such a difference to the end of the week; have just come in today and all is sparkling and smells of Flash!!

I can now look forward to a birthday weekend and my MIL's arrival! (The house will be a tip afterwards, but at least it starts off 'nickel' as they say in France!

Oh happy be as dramatic as you want! Grin I am jealous of your 6 hours!

Have a lovely birthday weekend janajos in your clean house Smile

Any good cleaning stories this week? I'm such a saddo but I'm due to give birth tomorrow and this thread is one of the things keeping me amused Smile.

I'm getting my usual Wednesday feeling where I'm excited about my lady's visit tomorrow. Just writing my list of jobs for her now.

Does anyone else write a list each week?

YANBU. I would so love a cleaner.

ZXEightyMum · 22/06/2011 14:08

My cleaner cleaned the ramekins that I use for ashtrays and I was pleased but ashamed. They were outside where I smoke and disgusting as you can imagine.

Due tomorrow you say? Brilliant! Keep us updated Smile

ipredicttrouble · 22/06/2011 15:07

Will do! Not feeling any signs as yet so got a feeling that I'm in for a wait Sad

mmm, mine seems to have ignored my list today. toilets still not properly cleaned :( what do you think girls?

CalamityKate · 22/06/2011 15:53

Well that's a bit odd, MABS. Ask her if there's a particular reason why she isn't cleaning the toilets? She certainly should be!

ipredicttrouble · 22/06/2011 16:00

Agree with Calamity.

Is it that she's not cleaning the outside of the toilets?

OP posts:
MABS · 22/06/2011 16:53

she cleaned the outside but not the inside! v odd. she knows my cats aren't allowed upstairs, both were on my bed when i got in and judging by the fur, had been for some time. in the bathroom, no bottles on the side etc have been moved at all:(

ipredicttrouble · 22/06/2011 18:19

Not the inside! Now that isn't on. I think you should say something TBH. You don't have to make a big deal with her but I think it's worth mentioning.

OP posts:
MABS · 22/06/2011 18:27

not sure whether to persevere of get rid to be honest, i told her to clean inside and out, she didn't :(

ipredicttrouble · 22/06/2011 20:51

Where did you find her Mabs? Sorry I can't remember.

OP posts:
MABS · 22/06/2011 20:57

gumtree, did take up reference too. I have 2 others in reserve.

ipredicttrouble · 22/06/2011 21:52

Well, cleaning toilets is a basic thing IME so I would either have a quick word or perhaps swap to someone else.

I truly believe there are 2 secrets to domestic harmony when you have kids/a busy life; a dishwasher and a cleaner. I'm moving in with DP next month just before DS3 is born and my one condition of moving in was that he got a dishwasher. That is all arranged and he has gone one better and is scouting round for a cleaner as well. I am ridiculously excited and am just trying to decide if we should have the cleaner start once we move in, so we are already used to having someone else in the house when the baby arrives, or to wait until he is born so we have a better idea of how much help we will need. Any suggestions?

My parents had a cleaner for a couple of years when i was a kid, but she always came during the day when we were all out at school or work, so I'm not sure of the etiquette of being in or out when they arrive. I'm thinking that for the first few weeks after bubba is born, I'll be home far more than I'm out but I feel a bit weird about being there while someone is cleaning up my mess. Equally though, I won't have the time to be mopping floors and the like either so don't know if i should just get over myself and reduce the burden of work to do ASAP?

God if anyone had told me when I was 18 that I would be so giddy at the prospect of getting a cleaner, I would have laughed them out of the house Hmm

ipredicttrouble · 26/06/2011 20:04

I agree Pious. We're planning on re-doing the kitchen next year and I'm trying to persuade DH into getting a dishwasher.

He's not in favour of them as he thinks it ruins glasses etc. However, I think they are wonderful inventions which will make our lives easier, which I'm all about at the moment Grin.

What do people think? Do dishwashers ruin stuff?

Pious, I would get sorted with a cleaner as soon as poss. That way you'll all be used to each other before your DS arrives. How many hours a week are you thinking of having?

And don't feel daft about feeling giddy, I get that way every Wednesday night now! Smile
