That's it really. I've fantasised about having a cleaner for ages but have finally taken the plunge and she is starting on Thursday. I've met her and am really hopeful that she's going to be great (though am preparing myself for teething problems etc.)

I feel that this may transform my life!! (not to be over-dramatic or anything) Grin

Our new cleaner started last week.

She is our third in this house, and I had actually intended waiting a while before getting another one but my neighbour told me that her cleaner was looking for more work. When you have the chance of a good cleaner, you have to take her.

Am extremely jealous of £10 an hour though.

Fair enough ruby Grin

Tarquin my DH is going part-time soon but that is to look after our 2 DC. I don't think I can really expect him to do much cleaning as well. Plus this removes any feelings of nagging/being nagged. With us only having 2 hrs per week there will still be things that we will need to do ourselves anyway.

MmeLindor is £10 a good rate then? I have no idea. We live in Yorkshire BTW.

What day is best to have a cleaner come on? Friday before the mess gets created, or Monday to clear up the mess from the weekend? DP reckons Friday as then he would see it looking nice, I reckon Monday as then DS and I would benefit! Any thoughts?

And is agency better than local newsagent advert?

ipredicttrouble · 31/05/2011 17:54

Mine is coming on Thursday but that's because we're all generally out of the house that day and I'd rather just leave her to get on with it without feeling like I'm watching over her.

On Fridays my DH is usually home. Plus Thursday is close to the weekend so the house will be nice for then.

But yes I can also see the sense of having them come on a Monday to clear up after the weekend.

We do Thursday so that the house is nice for weekend as we are more likely to have guests then as during the week.

I pay CHF 25 an hour - about £18. But that is Switzerland, always expensive here.

ipredicttrouble · 31/05/2011 20:51

MmeLindor how many hours do you have a week?

OP posts:
pixipie151 · 31/05/2011 21:37

Good for you. I cant afford one, but was fantisising about one myself just the other day! Go and get your nails done or better still a blow dry - something really decadent!

ipredicttrouble · 01/06/2011 16:30

Good idea pixie. Just the thought of coming back to a sparkling house is enough for me!

I'm with you on the excitement factor. We employed a cleaner for the first time last Aug - the best thing we ever did!!! OK, the house is still a bit messy, but to know that every Wednesday it'll be actually CLEAN is wonderful.

ipredicttrouble · 01/06/2011 19:10

How many hours do you have per week Beautiful? I'm just trying to gauge how much she'll manage to get through in 2 hrs.

no, it's lovely. I have a live in maid because she came with our job and also a gardener who cleans the car twice a week. Now I am over the guilt, I love having them and they are part of the family. We both work so hard and just don't have time for the household stuff. If I lived in the UK I would definitely have a cleaner now.

ipredicttrouble · 01/06/2011 19:14

Good on you Jasmine.

Well ladies, she's been & I'm very pleased! She did a 5 hour 'blitz' today and got through a lot Smile (except the ironing Sad).

I'm pleased with her overall standard, though there are a few little things that could be better. I'm being picky here!

She's definitely a keeper. Can't wait for next Thursday now. Grin

Glad it went well.

Now I feel free to tell you the story of the first cleaner I had who stole my hoover and replaced it with an inferior one! The most embarrassing bit is it took me weeks to notice as I never use the bloody thing!

ipredicttrouble · 02/06/2011 21:04

Oh heck, Tarquin! How did you resolve that one?

I'm certainly not going to count my chickens just yet. Will be on the look-out for any funny carrying on!

onebigchocolatemess · 02/06/2011 21:04

£15 every 2 weeks. Best money I ever spend GrinGrin

ipredicttrouble · 02/06/2011 21:06

How many hours is that for chocolate?

OP posts:
TarquinGyrfalcon · 02/06/2011 21:13

She denied it completly - DH thought that I was going mad until I found the receipt and instruction book for ours - hers was same make different cheaper model.

It wasn't ever resolved as she insisted that it was our hoover and I was too wussy to take it further. She was an avid car-booter and I think she sold mine.

I said that if my hoover wasn't returned we didn't want her back - never saw her again!

ipredicttrouble · 02/06/2011 21:15

Nightmare. I can imagine it being quite difficult to deal with a situation like that.

i wish i could get a cleaner, i love housework though and would just go over it when she/he leaves so no point ~ and then i wonder why my husband wont touch anything apart from the dishwasher

ipredicttrouble · 02/06/2011 21:17

I wish I loved housework but I don't Smile.

However, I do love a clean house.

Having a cleaner is the best investment I've ever made. Fantastic. I'd happily forgo all other luxuries.

ipredicttrouble · 03/06/2011 13:36

I agree kiwi. I would definitely give up other luxuries for this Smile
