we did this before. But it is a developing story. Apparently a North Eastern council has gone to an american courtand asked for the name of a twitter poster. (according to the news the name was provided.) Will it be a developing theme? Difficult to say (I have done twitter under my own name in the past....a lot of people do)

There are other ways of finding Twitter users, even if they do not use their own name. There are trails left by Internet users.

It isn't expensive to do. We own several internet site and on occasion have been served subpoenas to provide the IP addresses of accounts that have done wrong. These address are then put in a subpoena and served on the ISP to give details of who was using at the time.

Easy to track anyone down this way and takes about 10 mins of work for the site owner and the internet service provider.

Cost - about an hour of a lawyers time.
