I walked past the house of a family who I do know but not terribly well and I am aware there middle daughter is being bullied.

outside was a group of girls looking in through their window shouting and jeering and swearing. I know the mum works some afternoons so I did intervien and tell the group of girls to leave them alone and move away from the house...in hindsight a bit silly of me as I did have my 5 yr old dd with me, but I wasn't in any way afraid forour safety or anything. Turns out the mum was home and she also then came out. They took the message and went away, but then followed me up the street shouting and swearing and berating me. It was laughable really but attempted to call non emergency police no just to show the little shits they can get away with behaving like this, but my bloody mobile died on me.

Anyway I have been trying to call the school since 3.30 and no one has been available to take my call, and have just now been told all senior management staff left at 4.15 and receptionist cant locate any other teaching staff. no one will be in over half term. now I m shocked that the head did not pick up his answer messages before leaving the school for a whole week, I had left one message at 3.30 and one at 4pm. I find it hard to even believe the head of a secondary school would even finish at 4.15.

Im tempted to call the non emergancy no again to give the message to the school this not acceptable, but Im sure this is very little the police would even be able to do.

also I want to say bunch of little bitches how horrible for a group of girls to behave like this!!!!!

I had this happen to me when I was a teenager. I was just sat watching CITV in my house, with my baby sister on my knee, when I looked up and saw a gang of lads from school laughing and jeering through the window. It was awful - i didn't even have my own home to feel safe in, and I felt scared for my baby sister too - everyone else had gone out. :(

PinotGrigiosKittens · 27/05/2011 21:19

I wish someone had stood up for me like the OP did for that poor girl.

TheFlyingOnion · 27/05/2011 21:22

kids, kittens... meh

APie everyone has been supportive of the OP standing up for the girl. Quite rightly so.

tomhardyismydh · 27/05/2011 21:24

APie i wouldnt even bother bother sadly some very thoughtful and sensitive teachers have hijacked this into a drinking thread. I can see this will be taken very seriously with the school Hmm

PinotGrigiosKittens · 27/05/2011 21:25

PinotGrigiosKittens · 27/05/2011 21:26

GypsyMoth · 27/05/2011 21:27

probably sat on swings swigging vodka slagging off the teachers......yes!! you lot!!!

TheFlyingOnion · 27/05/2011 21:29

tomhardy maybe if you cultivated a sense of humour life would seem - I don't know - easier??

kangers · 27/05/2011 21:36

What did you want from your original post? Everyone to agree and say how truly horrfic it is that your information (cos that is all it is) cannot be passed on.
You are now being unreasonable.
I live nowhere near you. I am not to blame for this error. What is your job- lets imagine its a call centre operative- if I have a bad experience with direct line should I blame all operatives including you??
You are boring and annoying.
As flying onion says, lighten up- and next time get the kids names and do the job properly.

Olivetti · 27/05/2011 21:36

Tigerseye, I didn't claim that most people think they work the same hours as teachers. People in every sector work a variety of hours. Some people work to rule, others go above and beyond the call of duty. It seems to be only teachers who tell the world about every second they kindly work outside of core hours.

Also, some of the examples of a hard day are lame. E.g. the headteacher working 7am-6pm...whimper!

I like many teachers, and think some of them work exceptionally hard. I just won't accept that they live the lives of slaves.

PinotGrigiosKittens · 27/05/2011 21:39

spesh the boring and annoying bit >tee hee

kangers · 27/05/2011 21:40

Who said anything about slaves?
Just not getting berated for leaving premises at contracted time.

GypsyMoth · 27/05/2011 21:41

our school finishes at 3pm too

and the yr 11 history teachers leave tonight for Berlin residential trip....so no hols for them!!

do you get paid more for taking a bunch of teenegers abroad?? or just a medal??

bellavita · 27/05/2011 21:42

I am not a teacher either

claig · 27/05/2011 21:42

Well done tomhardy.
kangers, did Tom Hardy blame you? Why so defensive?
Why should tomhardy lighten up? I doubt she thinks it was a laughing matter. Michael Gove would probably agree.

TheFlyingOnion · 27/05/2011 21:42

Olivetti FWIW I used to be a lawyer and I do vaguely agree that some teachers work 8-5 and think its a long day.

I hope always to remember my horrible hours as a lawyer and never complain about my teaching hours. I love my job and don't resent any part of it.

But crikey, I never went home with headaches like I do now!

kangers · 27/05/2011 21:43

Let the band continue to play (put another disc on)

Open up the prosecco...

WhatsWrongWithYou · 27/05/2011 21:43

OP, I think you might be a victim of bad timing with this thread.
Seems to be a lot of de-mob happy folk making light of what otherwise would spark much wringing of hands on MN.

FWIW, I'd have been really shaken by what happened - I don't think it's 'just what kids do,' I think any form of bullying, which this clearly was, is appalling.

I've been mildly annoyed on occasion at not being able to raise anyone at school for much more trivial matters than this, but I think it's a fact of life that schools don't operate to business hours.

I suppose it's true that the HT wouldn't have done anything anyway, but at least you'd have had the satisfaction of feeling as if you'd done something about it. As it is, it looks as if you'll have to report it after half term. Just hope dealing with the matter doesn't interrupt the video-watching learning environment.
