Measles Outbreak?

1003 replies

MoaningLisa · 27/05/2011 13:56

I am sure you have all heard on the news that there has been an outbreak of measles.

Papers, Schools, Hv, Drs are saying if you or your child haven't had the vaccine(s) now would be a good time to get it done.

I cant help but think though that the parents who haven't and wont get their child vaccinated are putting their children at risk.

Aibu to think that its just bloody selfish and very daring to play with their own childs life?

exotic - you can't comment, that's your problem, you don't have anything to say

bubbleymummy · 02/06/2011 11:24

Oh dear curly, were you following the discussion? He corrected himself. Not sure why you refer to it as winning - I certainly don't. I just dint appreciate misinformation and scaremongering and I'm glad that he backtracked on his initial post which was both.

Gooseberrybushes · 02/06/2011 11:27

No, I'm not a troll. That's rather cowardly and childish of you?

You have nothing to say, Curly and exotic, on these salient issues, but you presume to make judgements on what others have researched and to criticise and scorn them?

Who does that? I mean, it's one thing to admit your ignorance, quite another to start ranting about how we should all join in with it.

CurlyGirly2 · 02/06/2011 11:29

You're right exotic, I just can't watch all the misinformation, and misuse of established science on this thread and not say something.

So. The studies accepted by the medical establishment accepting the overall safety of Mmr are ALL flawed are they? You know that do you? Do you KNOW that they are all SO FLAWED that they are not showing the right results?

And the studies that you find on google, that are NOT deemed acceptable by the medical establishment are perfect are they? Oh, only the Lancet won't publish because of what happened to Wakefield (etc etc conspiracy conspiracy)

Somehow I don't think so. But you can call me blinded by science and White coats if that makes you feel better.

bubbleymummy · 02/06/2011 11:30

Exotic, still waiting for you to answer the question about dropping vaccine coverage and eradication of smallpox that you're trying to sidestep. I know it contradicts your faith in the vaccine just try to consider for a moment that perhaps you have been misinformed about the role the vaccine played.

Gooseberrybushes · 02/06/2011 11:32

Yes, quite a lot of them are - and this is accepted by the scientific community. They're accepted as useless.

And by the way Curly -- what is it about asking for more research and recommending single vaccines that constitutes wanting to stop all life-saving medicine? In your own time.

bubbleymummy · 02/06/2011 11:33

'The studies accepted by the medical establishment accepting the overall safety of Mmr are ALL flawed are they?"

Um, which ones are they?

silverfrog · 02/06/2011 11:34

I dont find any studies on google (well, I do - I use google if someone mentions something on here - like MrSquidgy - i had ot google to see if there ws indeed a Finnish study that followed 14 million children, as I wasn't aware of it - it is a search tool, surely that is what googl is for?!) but otherwise, no I do not put random search terms inot google to try to turn up anything - why would I? Hmm

as for the medical community malarky - it is widely accepted within that medical community that most of the studies that have been touted as ?disproving" a mmr/autism link are deeply flawed. accepted by the medical community - sorry, just had ot repeat that, as you have a habit of missing salient points, curly.

as for misinformation: you are the biggest spreader of that on this thread, I think. one of your first posts on here you triumphantly gloated that your dd would never need to worry about any cervical cancer, thanks to the vaccine. that is so woefully misinformed that it si worrying. I only hope you choose to do some reading on that matter beofre you dd is the right age for that vaccine, rather than relying on the information sources you currently use, which are clearly not serving you well.

CurlyGirly2 · 02/06/2011 11:37

Silverfrog, do you extend that thoroughness to everything in life that affects your family?

All medicines- have you read up as much on paracetamol for example?

Food additives? There are some horrors in our childrens food.

Car safety?

I'm a parent - what makes YOUR information on here more valid than the informAtion I have drawn my conclusions from? I do read things for my self but I know my limitations in trawling google for studies and interpreting them myself!

Seems you do not.

silverfrog · 02/06/2011 11:40
bubbleymummy · 02/06/2011 11:41

Actually curly, I can't speak for silverfrog but i know I do. :)

CurlyGirly2 · 02/06/2011 11:41

And before you ask, my information is drawn from the WHO and established medical opinion that vaccines are the safest and most effective way to protect your children.

You really should read Snake Oil you know!

bubbleymummy · 02/06/2011 11:42

X post silver :) Not sure what curly was hoping to prove there but I think it's backfired!

bubbleymummy · 02/06/2011 11:44

Funny that the hpa say it's clean water...

Gooseberrybushes · 02/06/2011 11:45

oh my goodness curly - people are giving up their time here - they are reading your stuff - why don't you read theirs?

why do you INSIST on these straw man arguments (do you even know what one of those is?) in favour of your theory that there's no link between MMR and autistic disorder?

small pox? car safety?

ALL WE WANT IS MORE RESEARCH AND SINGLE VACCINES WHILE WE'RE AT IT. Get it?

CurlyGirly2 · 02/06/2011 11:46

Gosh, you must spend simply all your to your time reading and interpreting data! When do you find time to parent?

Nobody has time and few have the inclination to do all the research themselves. That's why society appoints professional bodies to do so. There are mistakes and horror stories - they happen, but they are dealt with accordingly. Thalidomide is no longer given to pregnant mothers for example.

Gooseberrybushes · 02/06/2011 11:47

Yes my big noise friend in the pharma industry says clean water too..

CurlyGirly2 · 02/06/2011 11:47

Bubbly, for the last time the WHO attributes the eradication of smallpox to vaccinations programs. Do we really have to go through it all again?

Gooseberrybushes · 02/06/2011 11:50

Curly - how dare you - after silver has spoken about her family commitments?

Grow up - that is truly truly pathetic and disgusted.

That was an absolutely dreadful thing to say. How low can you go. Are you proud of yourself?

silverfrog · 02/06/2011 11:50

at implied criticism of my parenting.

I find plenty of time, thanks. and have lovely, well mannered, polite and happy children.

I also find time to make my own bread, bake lots with the children (specialised diets, so tricky baking), source my own ingedients as they are not found in supermarkets commonly - gosh I must just be supermummy Hmm - really not sure what oyur point is here, other than that oyu cannot be bothered to find the time to read up on some of htese issues.

Gooseberrybushes · 02/06/2011 11:51

For your information - many of the women posting here know so much about it as PART of their parenting - their children were damaged and no one would listen.

So they had to find out for themselves.

You make me sick Curly with that comment about parenting. How dare you insult and abuse like that.

silverfrog · 02/06/2011 11:51

oh, btw, I also home-educated dd1 for 2 years.

Gooseberrybushes · 02/06/2011 11:52

Why oh why are you blithering on about small pox.

It just defies normal brain activity.

CurlyGirly2 · 02/06/2011 11:53

Gooseberry, ALL you want is more research into Mmr? Or do you just want them to keep on searching until they find that elusive link?

More research is fine by me btw. I'm not against it, but I do believe that enough research exists to show safety and efficacy of Mmr.
So do the medical profession.

Shame though, if all you want is more research why is this thread filled with anti-vax sentiment, denial that vaccines have had a HUGE impact on killer diseases worldwide, and big- pharma conspiracy???

silverfrog · 02/06/2011 11:54

oh well, it's been fun, guys - but all good things must come to an end...

till next time?
