Ordered baby product, got sent wrong colour. Am I being unreasonsable in expecting them to bend over backwards to resolve problem/keep custom

I ordered a baby product specifically in blue and I got send a green one. the invoice clearly states I requested blue. I phone customer services and they tell me yes they did send wrong one as supplier labelled wrong etc (note the packing is see through - clearly anyone packing should see it's not blue)

They tell me they can send a replacement and should arrive by next week i.e. next wed/thurday as there is a bank holiday. I enquire why they cant do next day delivery and they said warehouse shut tomorrow and delivery depends on royal mail. I did point out they could dispatch today and put it in a more special delivery. then on top of that am asked to send existing one back either to store or by post. I tell them its not easy to do either as I have small baby need to get cover etc and i dont live very close to shop. They said they would send me free returns label. I ask to speak to supervisor, she says more or less the same things above. I tell her that for a mistake they made I have to go round returning the wrong product myself and wait for the delivery of the replacement up to a week its not on and that its not really incentive for me to shop there again. She said what else do you want me to do I said I dunno maybe offer some discount towards next purchase.

I've now asked to speak to manager waiting for phone call, I'm upset at their service. Update: spoke to manager and she said the same as above and I said it was not good enough that I might or might not get product next day as its 1st class royal mail. I said really i should get discount for my next shop or something as I really wanted to use the product today. She said you can start using the product today with wrong color and accept as mistake or send back and get replacement and wait for product to come. She said I think this is genuine mistake and I wont be doing any more then whats offered. I said well why cant you even send it guaranteed next day,she said okay she will do that but someone will have to be in to sign it. I said fine. I really thought I was banging my head against a brick wall by this point.

They didn't seem to get that I was upset at their service, they were not apologetic enough. They could have offered a next day delivery service in the first place or at least been really sorry and I would have happy at that.

What do you think?

You have probably brightened the customer service departments friday. Once the rep was off the phone, she would have the most hillarious story to tell about the bonkers customer who insisted on next day delivery of a Very Important Weaning set, and how her baby would never taste even a spoonful of baby rice were it not eaten from a Blue bowl. Grin excellent.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 27/05/2011 13:00

Well for the rest of you saying that the OP is making a fuss about 'just a colour'... what if your curtains, car, sofa arrives in the wrong colour? It's still functional, no? So what's all the fuss about... get on with you, you mean lot.

Take no notice, Emmz, not on the colour anyway - but the consumer advice has been good.

diddl · 27/05/2011 13:00

Oh dear, that´s my cup of (green) tea gone down my t-shirt!

A weaning set?

Something that you can just pick up in Boots or Mothercare?(if it´s not for a special occasion, a present & you´re not High Maintenance, that is)

Blimey, what a fuss!

QuintessentialOldMoo · 27/05/2011 13:02

LyingWitch, a car, sofa or curtains, takes MONTHS, and we would have to wait MONTHS for the next delivery in the right colour. The op can pop down to her nearest tesco or boots to pick one up, and other wise, it will be with her next week.

MisSalLaneous · 27/05/2011 13:03

I feel a bit mean now after seeing you're new here. For what it's worth, I've had moments when I was stressed about other things and then flipped over something tiny. You're unreasonable, yes, but we all are at some stage.

ChippingIn · 27/05/2011 13:04

I too would want the blue one if that was the one I'd chosen.

However, I really don't think waiting a few days is a big deal? Surely you have bowls and tea spoons already? Why the huge fuss over a couple of days?

TeaOneSugar · 27/05/2011 13:05

I once had a customer on the phone who's dishwaher had broken down, she was in despair and shouted "how will I wash my dishes", I suggested a bowl of hot water and some fairy.

She didn't appreciate my suggestion Grin.

swampster · 27/05/2011 13:05

She's basically after a freebie and is throwing her toys out of her pram because they aren't stumping up.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 27/05/2011 13:06

Quintessential... But she ordered that one in that colour. It doesn't matter what it is really, it's the principle. Grin

I don't know where you shop either, but waiting months for a car, sofa, curtains.... even specially made/imported they don't take that long. Confused

Pandemoniaa · 27/05/2011 13:07

I'm sorry to be standing firmly in the YABU camp. Because until you told us that it was a weaning set that had brought on such conniptions, I was thinking you might have a point. But honestly! A weaning set! All I can advise is that life is likely to deal you rather greater dilemmas in future so ordering up a sense of perspective (along with the correctly coloured items) might be useful.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 27/05/2011 13:07

TeaOneSugar... My SIL wanted to transport all her dirty dishes to wash in my Mum's dishwasher when hers broke... bonkers. Grin

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 27/05/2011 13:09

Pandemoniaa... OP is new, so where might she, in your expertly helpful opinion order her perspective from? Oh.. and what colours does it come in? Hmm

Emmz0 · 27/05/2011 13:09

swampster - noooo not after a freebie. they should have been a bit more apologetic that's all . Like John Lewis!!! whenever I've had a problem there they are genuinely very sorry whatever item it is.

QuintessentialOldMoo · 27/05/2011 13:09

Good attempt at indulging op. Smile

diddl · 27/05/2011 13:09

I can see it´s a disappointment, but you either send it back & wait or let them know & tell them you´ll keep it but expect voucher to compensate for the wrong order.

QuintessentialOldMoo · 27/05/2011 13:10

YOU suggested money off, op.

I am sure they saw right through you, here is another blardy customer who jumps at the chance for a freebie, or a money off, as soon as there is the tiniest mistake. They have you down as a moneygrabbing cow.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 27/05/2011 13:10

She's new... :)

ChaosTrulyReigns · 27/05/2011 13:11

GML, that wedding flowers comment was inspired.

Grin

I feel this needs another standing ovulation.

Pandemoniaa · 27/05/2011 13:12

Actually, I revise my advice in the light of LyingWitch's comment. Rather than rely upon the original supplier who has clearly let the side down Very Badly Indeed, the OP would clearly be better Googling up "sense of perspective". That way it will be delivered in a timely manner and in an appropriate hue.

5318008 · 27/05/2011 13:16

OP you are in the middle of a Pile-in Shitstorm at the mo, you might want to hide the thread now as it'll go on for another 3-400 posts

Pagwatch · 27/05/2011 13:16

Poor old op.

At least this is putting your disappointment into perspective. Look how much worse life can be when all you did was post on aibu with a slightly precious query.

Never mind

Leave her alone. There is another thread where people are waxing lyrical about their fav mug. We are all a bit weird...
(possibly not the most flattering support but hey...)

AnnieLobeseder · 27/05/2011 13:16

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe - no-one is disputing the OP's right to change the set to whatever colour she chooses. The point is the giant fuss she's kicking up and the special treatment she seems to think she deserves.

If I received something that was not as I ordered, I would calmly send it back and ask for a replacement, plus postage. The shop has agreed to give the OP this. I fail to see why she's so upset.

Merrylegs · 27/05/2011 13:17

Move along now, Pag. Nothing to see here.....
Wink

ShowOfHands · 27/05/2011 13:17

Arf at standing ovulation.

I've no idea what a weaning set is. Cutlery? They won't use it. Give 'em a crust of bread and a bit of banana and stand well back.

JuicyLips · 27/05/2011 13:20

I thought you were referring to a pram for some reason, you are being a bit precious Op, I know you ordered blue but will baby even notice the difference? If it were a pram I'd be bothered but for a weaning set I'd be a little annoyed but would use it nonetheless.
