Ordered baby product, got sent wrong colour. Am I being unreasonsable in expecting them to bend over backwards to resolve problem/keep custom

I ordered a baby product specifically in blue and I got send a green one. the invoice clearly states I requested blue. I phone customer services and they tell me yes they did send wrong one as supplier labelled wrong etc (note the packing is see through - clearly anyone packing should see it's not blue)

They tell me they can send a replacement and should arrive by next week i.e. next wed/thurday as there is a bank holiday. I enquire why they cant do next day delivery and they said warehouse shut tomorrow and delivery depends on royal mail. I did point out they could dispatch today and put it in a more special delivery. then on top of that am asked to send existing one back either to store or by post. I tell them its not easy to do either as I have small baby need to get cover etc and i dont live very close to shop. They said they would send me free returns label. I ask to speak to supervisor, she says more or less the same things above. I tell her that for a mistake they made I have to go round returning the wrong product myself and wait for the delivery of the replacement up to a week its not on and that its not really incentive for me to shop there again. She said what else do you want me to do I said I dunno maybe offer some discount towards next purchase.

I've now asked to speak to manager waiting for phone call, I'm upset at their service. Update: spoke to manager and she said the same as above and I said it was not good enough that I might or might not get product next day as its 1st class royal mail. I said really i should get discount for my next shop or something as I really wanted to use the product today. She said you can start using the product today with wrong color and accept as mistake or send back and get replacement and wait for product to come. She said I think this is genuine mistake and I wont be doing any more then whats offered. I said well why cant you even send it guaranteed next day,she said okay she will do that but someone will have to be in to sign it. I said fine. I really thought I was banging my head against a brick wall by this point.

They didn't seem to get that I was upset at their service, they were not apologetic enough. They could have offered a next day delivery service in the first place or at least been really sorry and I would have happy at that.

What do you think?

What's a weaning set?

Emmz0 · 27/05/2011 12:29

knittedbreast - hmmm, that is extreme the customers mentioned. Definately spoke to advisors politely to put in context

Just use the green - its a plastic bowl for a baby to eat out of Hmm

I cant believe you asked for special next day delivery for a weaning bowl, a special gift for a special occasion yes but not for something where colour doesnt even matter.

AnnieLobeseder · 27/05/2011 12:30

Seems like you're making a huge fuss over a simple mistake which the shop is rectifying as best they can. Over a weaning set?!?! Good grief. Be grateful this is the biggest worry in your life.....

QuintessentialOldMoo · 27/05/2011 12:31

oh for fuck sake, this must be a windup, surely nobody is THIS precious?

QuintessentialOldMoo · 27/05/2011 12:33

Shock oh, I know, the baby turns into THIS at the sight of green!

GwendolineMaryLacey · 27/05/2011 12:34

:o

CheeseandPickledOnion · 27/05/2011 12:35

YABU. FFS, it's a weaning set. They've sent a replacement and given you a free returns label. What more do you want? The manager to personally collect your returns, drop off the right item and kiss your poor little feet?

swampster · 27/05/2011 12:35

Grin I imagine it must be Baby's six-month birthday and if she doesn't start weaning him (blue, assume boy) today he never will wean. I knew someone it happened to. For real. She lived under a bridge.

hocuspontas · 27/05/2011 12:40

I need to know why you need 'cover' to go to the post office.

MarioandLuigi · 27/05/2011 12:44

All this fuss over sone bowls and spoons that your PFB will probably throw on the floor.

Yes, why do you need 'cover' to go to the Post Office - you can take the baby out you know.

This thread is almost as funny as the homemade pasta thread/nanny thread!

Now I absolutely agree with OP about the colour. If you have your heart set on a colour, whatever it is, and that's what you order, that's what you should have. Grin

MarioandLuigi · 27/05/2011 12:50

Do you think that in 25 years time your PFB will go to therapy and say 'My life started to go wrong when my Mum used a green weaning set instead of a blue one, after that it was a downward spiral'

controlpantsandgladrags · 27/05/2011 12:51

I thought it was going to be coordinating nursery curtains or something. A weaning set ffs........use the bloody green one and don't be so daft.

edam · 27/05/2011 12:55

It does seem like a lot of fuss about nothing but legally you are pretty much in the right - Sale of Goods Act says goods 'must be as described'. You ordered green, not blue. You have the right to a full refund or replacement at no extra cost. However, I think they are probably being reasonable - they have offered you a replacement within a reasonable amount of time.

Not sure whether you have to send it back, as it's their mistake. Check out the Consumer Direct website.

Emmz0 · 27/05/2011 12:56

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe - Thank you that was point I was trying to make.

All- taking on board all suggestions/comments - Im kinda new to these boards

Good on you. Good on you for standing up for a baby's right to eat from the correct coloured bowl. It is tres importante.

GoFullForce · 27/05/2011 12:57

I think your a ejit, who needs to get your priorities in order, human beings make mistakes, its fact!.

just Hmm

MisSalLaneous · 27/05/2011 12:58

I'm so sorry, but hahahahahaha! A weaning set and you're this upset?? My life would kill you off, I wish the colour of a bowl was as rough as a day could get.

Have some camomile tea. Brew

bonkers20 · 27/05/2011 12:59

OP, next time ask whether YABU BEFORE you spend all that time an energy on the phone!

Have you namechanged? Are you actually workinggally?!

What shop is is? I think they have pretty good customer service.

TattyDevine · 27/05/2011 12:59

YABU on the basis that they have offered you a free returns label, have offered to send the correct product out before even receiving the first one back (which is very trusting) and its not their fault that Royal Mail don't guarantee Saturdays or that there happens to be a bank holiday scheduled.

Here's one to give you some perspective: I bought something (a hair extension set to boost my plumage for a night out Grin forgive me I do live in Essex) and they sent the wrong colour out - like completely the opposite colour to what I ordered. I didn't open the box because they were visible through the box. Emailed them to say I'd be returning it and they said they dont' accept returns on hair extensions. Yes, you do, I said, because I haven't opened the box, its safety sealed, and it was your mistake.

So I send it back, Special delivery, at cost of £5.90 to me (I knew they were going to be arseholes about it hence special delivery) and chased my refund. They said "we haven't received the product back so we can't refund you". I said, oh yes you have, I've got proof of delivery. At that point they stopped replying to my emailss and started putting the phone down on me.

This is me £20 down (well, £25.90 if you count the fact that I paid to return it) and they are now in possession of the product which they can re-sell and they still wont talk to me!

Luckily I paid with Paypal. So I lodged a claim and I am waiting for Paypal to pay me back. They will, I've got all the proof I need, did everything by the book. But can you imagine?!? That, my dear, is bad customer service.

knittedbreast · 27/05/2011 12:59

they have alredy offered her a refund or a replacement but she wants money off another product. which is silly because she wont be offered it
