AIBU to think that some people are just ignorant.

Just been on the rival another forum.

Someone is talking about how being a housewife is deemed as being lazy by some people, specially men.

But her reasonings for not working are

Her husband doesnt trust day nurseries, because of his young age, if anything was happening to him he wouldnt be able to tell them

Am i right in thinking that is just being bloody ignorant to every nurseries, childminder out there?

AIBU in thinking people who think like this are just ignorant?!

I know there was the story of Vanessa George the nursery worker in 2009 but FGS come on...

Some people really are nervous parents. It's not neccessarily ignorance.

But actually, if it's HIS choice and she wants to work then she needs to stand up to her husband

I know but if you were or are a childminder, dont/wouldnt you feel abit off to think that people dont want to leave their kids with you because you might be a child abuser?!

YABU there are plenty of shit nurseries around - just because they fulfill all the obligations doesn't mean they are loving caring places.

I am not sure really. Sexual abuse is not the only issue and problem that can occur in a nursery. The number of threads on here about concerns parents have with their childrens nursery or childminder are added proof of that. Neglect and verbal abuse can, and do happen, and a child who cannot yet speak IS unable to tell their parents if they are unhappy.

I realise of course that some parents have no choice but to go back to work and no family support which means they have to use a nursery, but personally for me, I would rather stay at home, or have my baby with a grandparent until they are old enough to speak up for themselves.

I know that not every nursery is bad, and incidents are rare, but given a choice I too would prefer a baby to have one on one care rather than be in a nursery at a very young age.

YABU there are many good nurseries but equally there are bad one (or even just individual workers.

She feels strongly that she does not want to put her son at risk, she is entitled to have those feelings she has not harmed anyone.

and had I not had my mother care for dd1 I may not have d=gone back to work after my first pregnancy for much the same reasons.

I now don't work and am at home for my family , I really don't gve a shit if some inetrent sprite thinks that is lazy, I do what is best for my family at the moment.

I think if you were a child minder and didn't acept that people have real and valid concern then you WBU.

Nope. You're taking it too personally, it's their choice. Most people think traffic wardens are arseholes. Nothing to do with them as a person. And really, if you think most people think nursery workers are child abusers,you've been reading too much Daily Mail.
