to be annoyed at Primark for their changing room policy?

I dashed in there after school today with DD to get her some new school trousers. Picked 4 pairs in different sizes/lengths and went off to the changing rooms - to be told that only one person can go in a cubicle. I gave the attendant the Hmm look and said that I need to see how they fit. He grudgingly let me stand in the corridor leading to the changing rooms.

When she'd finished, I asked why only one person was allowed per cubicle. The answer? Because of the size of the rooms. No kidding, this is a brand new Primark and the cubicles are HUGE. Four people could try on clothes in one cubicle with room to spare. I told him this and he shrugged. Then I asked at what age are parents still allowed to go in with their children - age 10, apparently. DD is 13.

FFS I am paying for DD's trousers, I want to know if they fit properly. If I go shopping with my mum, we always go in together so we can point out the wobbly bits do up awkward zips.

M&S give us the large changing room to share. Feckin' Primark. Grin

I was in my local Primark last week. Had 4 items to try on. Assistant in charge of changing rooms says " 3 only"... I point to the sign next to her head that says "4 items" she says "yeh but we got no counters left wiv 4 on"..

I suggested she gave me 2 x 2's but that was beyond her comprehension.

Knock, you should have just got some items that you wanted to try on too, and both gone in together.

Love love love Primark! (raspberries at the Primarni snobs)

Yeah that's pretty stupid but at age 13 could she not just come out of the cubicle and show you?

The Primark at Lakeside must be hell-on-earth.Its like Dantes Inferno and the grumpiest most narky customers
Disclaimer: DD nearly 9yo loves it.
Perhaps the staff get their own back by making up petty rules to pass the time?

kw1986 · 26/05/2011 23:18

Why did you need to be IN the changing room with your DD? Why couldn't she put them on in private and then step out for you to see them, which is what most people would do.

knockinonyerdoor · 26/05/2011 23:18

Yeah Primark is a cheap shit shop, thats why I dress DD from there - she's growing so fast I'd be broke in a week. My wardrobe is full of Next and River Island from the charity shop Grin

Squeaky I was so gobsmacked I didn't even think of getting something for myself. I should have swiped 2 pairs of DD's trousers and said they were for me. Wonder if the attendant would have noticed that I'm not actually a size 8...

kw the changing rooms are past a desk, round a corner and down a corridor! Why can't Primark let 2 people in together? Confused

I bet it's not their policy at all. He was probably miffed that I had an M&S carrier bag in one hand and a Bon Marche one in the other... Grin

You know what, it has never even occurred to me to try anything on in Primark - probably because the first time ever I saw the queue for a changing room there, the queues were horrendous. Prefer to just buy, and if I need to take anything back go first thing in the morning on my day off on a weekday - understand that isn't possible for a lot of people though.

OP - Do thnk it is a bit off, but as people have said, low cost, low staffing capability etc, do the two/three items, each thing next time, just get bigger/smaller sizes in same thing, or get dd to come out to you - she would probably enjoy it.
