Attempting to start a conversation with her or answer a question - she listens for about 0.08 seconds before impatiently jumping in with a related but separate anecdote or fact, possibly concerning her, possibly a person she knew 20 years ago, sometimes very tenuously, but there is never a time when nothing coming back. I wish Google could just have a "listen" button.

Ah the mother conversations. Stories about people who have died - you know the one: second cousin's brother wife of Fred's friend who worked in gas, or was it the building trade...anyway you know. You met them when you were a baby. You must remember. Died. Sudden. You're not listening, are you dear?
