Strip washes are fine, you just need these. Wink

slightlymad72 · 23/05/2011 17:41

What about those people that wash themselves everyday and wear clean clothes but are allergic to deodorants? do they deserve the insults?

complexnumber · 23/05/2011 17:42

With you olibeansmummy,

Just because someone thinks you have B.O., does NOT mean that you do not wash properly.

HugoFirst · 23/05/2011 17:44

Lol at kind old Aries. Dont be fair ;)

HugoFirst · 23/05/2011 17:45

So the stuinkers WASH yet smell?!

OP posts:
complexnumber · 23/05/2011 17:50

Not sure about 'stuinkers', they sound a bit different.

Mandy2003 · 23/05/2011 18:00

Hear, hear olibeansmummy!

And, no, Asinine, nobody else had made that point, I agree with you. That is why, I guess, there are sections on the old DLA form regarding help needed for personal hygiene. Don't know if the new assessments will take that into account though Sad

I have mobility problems and very dry skin so I am of the stripwash brigade too. Because I cannot raise my legs to a basin or bend to wash them, I have to wash my feet in a bowl while sitting down.

I have two differently coloured flannels, one for above and one for below the waist. When I have finished washing at the basin I wash out both flannels with very hot water and hang them up to dry.

And clean clothes every day!

bellavita · 23/05/2011 18:02

Personally, I like to feel clean and if that means two showers a day then so be it.

There should be no reason for someone to smell.

DontHassleTheBOF · 23/05/2011 18:09

Some people just have a permanent air of grubbiness, don't they? I think it's sometimes due to smoking and drinking, and probably diet too. You can tell just from a photograph if somebody honks. I do feel very sorry for people with a medical condition though- so humiliating.

Ariesgirl · 23/05/2011 18:28

Hugo I'm not normally fair and kind Grin

My brother used to hang around with a load of crusties who held such views. He was the same. It was either put up or cut contact.

sundayrose10 · 23/05/2011 18:41

I have actually laughed out loud on this thread. Nicklebabe is a scream. I could not imagine anything worse than strip wash, whatever it is...it sounds so vile.

Below comment from Nicklebabe had me OMGGGGGGGGGGG

compo i use my last day's knickers to wash my bits.

Mandy2003 · 23/05/2011 18:51

Ariesgirl - I used to know a fair few from the Convoy and had never heard/thought that the general smell of human being was actually a political statement! Wow!

I never asked, and some would definitely smell much worse than others which I put down to genetics, I just figured it's fuckin' horrible to have to strip wash with nothing but a bucket of cold water!

Also, it's easier in those conditions to subscribe to the Medieval idea of clothing when it's cold ie. keep the same stuff underneath and add a new layer to the top! See North Norfolk for details, where it's too cold to actually wash at all for 8 months of the year Smile

oldraver · 23/05/2011 18:56

The man at the Royal Mail sorting office smells very very badly. When you open the door to his desk/window the smell hits you. Fortunetly its a very small space probably 6'x3' so it doesnt look odd standing at the door pretending to keep and eye on DC in car. I notice that others do this as well

HugoFirst · 23/05/2011 18:57

I once encourntered a man behind a security screen who smelled out a large HALL type room ( hem hem)

OP posts:
goodegg · 23/05/2011 18:58

Shock at people preferring to wipe their bits with yesterday's pants than have a shower! Just Shock Surely bacteria will have found overnight? How can you rinse doing this strip-wash thing?

I commute by bus and being pg have heightened sense of smell. The BO/bad breath/ciggies smell of a morning is not the best.

Ariesgirl · 23/05/2011 19:00

Yes indeed Mandy, it was a way of cocking a snook at the petty bourgeoisie who impose their middle class values on society and deny all that is natural. Apparently.

TheMonster · 23/05/2011 19:12

A agree goodegg, the washing with dirty knickers is gross. I don't believe anyone would actually do it.

happybubblebrain · 23/05/2011 19:15

Apart from the man who sat next to me in the library and smelt very strongly of poo, the smelliest people are the smokers - much worse than BO.

happybubblebrain · 23/05/2011 19:17

Lots of students compete to be smelly and disgusting. When I was a student I didn't change my sheets for a whole year - they didn't smell.

NettoSuperstar · 23/05/2011 19:18

The only time I've ever strip washed is in deepest winter when the boiler has broken, so twice, in ten years.
I used every flannel and towel I own and still didn't feel fresh.

Grim.

I must also point out that I did not put dirty knickers anywhere near me.

Nickelbabe, you say you rinse the dirty keks in very hot water first?
Surely that tells you something?

Jaspants · 23/05/2011 19:39

Nickel I'm confused - you get up, pull yesterdays dirty knickers out of the washing basket and then wash them in hot water and then use them to wash your body?

I can't imagine why anyone would want to wash themselves in something that has been festering in the dirty linen basket overnight.

PeterSpanswick · 23/05/2011 19:52

(Checks armpits) Nope, not me!

TheMonster · 23/05/2011 19:52

Netto, I hate strip washes too. In fact, when our boiler broke down I braved a freezing shower rather than a strip wash.
At no point did I consider washing myself with my dirty undergarments.

TeaOneSugar · 23/05/2011 20:21

This "yesterdays knickers" thing reminds me of my mil , she can go on holiday for 2 weeks and wear the same pair of knickers the whole time.

She washes them out at night and hangs them up to dry and then puts them on again the next day and so on.

I suspect there is some underlying need for routine involved.

NettoSuperstar · 23/05/2011 20:23

BodyOfEeyore, that's why I specified, 'deepest winter'. Any other time and I've just had a cold shower.
