To want to bloody strangle my cat in the mornings!

My cat can be the sweetest thing, cuddling up to me etc. She is very loud and loves bothering me all the time especially when I get things out the fridge, normally I don't mind this and just ignore her.

In the mornings she is a bloody nightmare however! We don't let her sleep in our bedroom otherwise she is a pain. She waits until the sun is up then starts meowing and crying loudly outside our bedroom door and scratching it, this can go on for hours without stopping.

Sometimes I get sick of it and let her in to the room to try and get some peace but then she jumps up by my head and meaows some more. She will rub her nose in my face, slobber on my hands to try and get some strokes and claw at my hair to get attention. She only does this to me never DP. If I shove her off the bed she jumps back up and if I throw her out she goes back to meawing and scratching which disturbes me and DP.

AIBU to want to strangle her to shut her up?

Both of ours can be shouty, but they have different times of the day they like to do it, lucky us Grin

But one really makes a racket in the morning, and as I'm not a morning person it grates like fuck on me and I have to 'leave' her behind the stairgate until I've had at least one cup of tea.

My dads cat is like yours though and right cheeky waking him up at 5 in the morning sticking his claws in, doesn't let up until he's got what he wants etc.

I really couldn't be doing with it, you letting her in just to get some peace probably backs up she's doing the right thing to get in (like a toddler Grin) I would ignore her and not open the door, but I'm not sure how long it'd be until she got the message.

Throw a book at her

I do mean when she's outside and the door is shut! The clank against a wooden door scares them off Wink

Otherwise, do not engage. Mine does this occasionally, but it usually means she wants her litter changed (the tray is on the upstairs landing outside the bedroom)

Our cat is locked in the lounge at night with his bed and water etc and as it stays dark because of the curtains he does not get up until we get up - then he is a right chatterbox!

Can you not put the cat in a room with curtains and shut the door over night, as long as she has her kitty litter and water she might whinge the first night but she will get over it.

One of ours sleeps on the bottom of our bed, but she gets on quietly before sneakily taking up far more than her fair share of space Grin

I end up squashed up and don't like to move her but there's no way I'd let her get me up like yours zukiecat!

Reminded me of so so so so funny, he gets them off to a tee Grin

my cats sleep in the bathroom but this trick would work from inside your bedroom if cat is outside the door i keep a can of air freshener outside the door and if they start to scratch the door i give the bottom of the door a quick spray with the can, the PSSST noise it makes stops them in thier tracks dosent harm them as the air freshener is my side of the door and the landing smells nice when i get up

Compressed air - the sort you clean your computer keyboard with. It's a louder noise than the air freshener, and makes our cats skedaddle VERY quickly Grin

Just the noise of course - don't squirt it AT them.

We've trained our cats out of lots of 'wrong' behaviour using compressed air.

Yes ours get shut in the kitchen overnight for this very reason.

I cannot wait until we get our conservatory built as they keep managing to open the kitchen door (was 5am this morning!!!)

They are the most expensive cats ever..................but my undisturbed sleep is worth it Confused

Our cat was hit by a car very early this morning and is currently at the emergency vets. We're not sure yet whether he's going to be OK but he'll need a lot of treatment if so. We miss him Sad

Cuddle them close people, no matter how infuriating they can be.

Oh I'm sorry Snuffle, how awful!

In some ways I'm glad that the flat I live in means she can't get outside and is a housecat because if she could get out I'd be constantly terrified of something horrible happening to her.

Snuffle, I hope your cat is OK

We used to have a cat who would try and sleep on DH's balding head in the winter. He had obviously identified it as a heat source. When he was curled up there he would also thoughtfully groom his eyebrows.

EvilCat1 sleeps downstairs but usually comes running upstairs screeching at about 5am. He was an abandonned rescue cat who has separation and anxiety issues and he seems to need to check that we are safely in bed before he will settle down again

If your cat is vocal and has not been before - it may be worth taking it for a blood test. It can be a sign of a hyperthyroidism which untreated, can be dangerous. Has the cat started eating a lot lately? Is the cat extra thirsty and hyperactive?

Our cat began like this and now has tablets. Still quite vocal but at least she is safe from a heart attack...

You need some black out blinds - it's getting a lot lighter in the mornings and she probably can't fathom why she's now being woken up by the sun and then kept in for a few hours - hence the whinging.

The cat is 13 and has manic bursts but is usually quite calm, she is very vocal loves food to the extremes (constant bothering when I'm in the kitchen) and drinks water out of my glasses if I leave them on the table Angry

As far as I know she has always been like this. I got her last August when my evil alcoholic great uncle who owned her died good riddance. Since they didn't even bother looking after themselves properly I think the cat is over-anxious for attention. Or it could just be her personality.

The water out of glasses thing - our thyroidal cat does the same thing. It really might be worth getting her a blood test. Plus overeating...it all adds up....

I'll know he's definitely better when rather than wanting to kiss his whiskery little face all the time, I'm back to wanting to strangle him in the mornings!
