To have just fucking screamed at the man who put a leaflet through my door.

despite having a sign up saying "no junk mail/leaflets"

We must get at least five a day.

Ds has been poorly and none of us had any sleep last night. I got him off about an hour ago and this stupid fuckwit pushed pizza leaflets through my door waking ds up because the dog started barking.

I fucking flew at him. The language was not pretty. He pretty much legged it up the road.

Can they not read?

See now I'm torn between feeling desperate for lostinwales and nodding furiously at what Lunabelly says because I feel exactly the same. It's a terrible waste of resources and a real intrusion of privacy. :(

deepbluewave · 21/05/2011 16:26

you should read - AIBU- to tell DH this is not funny! posted today!

Someones DH- pretends to eat it and churn to post back out- that has caused public outrage on MN!!

theyoungvisiter · 21/05/2011 16:31

"think that some of the people being unkind here obv live in houses with long drives and don't get much junk mail! we get loads."

Rubbish. I live in a terrace in the middle of London and we get 15+ leaflets a day most days.

I still manage to remember there's a person on the other end of that leaflet and that living in a house and owning a letterbox doesn't give me a god-given right to scream at any poor fucker trying to earn a living on my doorstep. Hmm

GrimmaTheNome · 21/05/2011 16:36

How about amending your "no junk mail/leaflets" sign to one reading something like:

No leaflets/catalogs please. We will NOT use the services of any organisation which does not respect our wishes.

Obviously the postie has to put everything through, but it might stop some of the others. Some organisations probably don't think of themselves as 'junk mail'.

Bucharest · 21/05/2011 17:11

I'm nice to cold callers too, say no politely and wish them luck with their selling.

It doesn't cost me anything.

Lunabelly · 21/05/2011 17:15

No leaflets / menus / catalogues / attempted conversions of faith, lofts or garages / No driveway tarmacing or free 'news'papers / No chuggers - yes, that's YOU / ah bollocks, no anyone unless we're related or you're bringing me ebay yummies. Transgressors will be boiled in oil and fed to a jizzed-up komodo dragon. Thank you ta

Lunabelly · 21/05/2011 17:15

Will it work?

Cocoflower · 21/05/2011 17:20

I live in a terrace in the middle of London and we get 15+ leaflets a day most days.

Not saying anyone should scream.... but if all 15 of them had chosen to show you disrespect in your own home by ignoring your polite "no junk mail please" sign everday I would this v.v.v rude.

theyoungvisiter · 21/05/2011 17:31

They've got to earn a living - every "no junk" sign means another 3 metres they've got to tramp in order to get rid of their 3000 leaflets. It doesn't cost you much if they ignore your sign - vote with your feet and don't patronise any of the establishments.

And no, I don't love takeaway menus and it doesn't give me a warm glow to chuck yet another tree into the recycling. But I don't blame the poor sods on the sharp end. They aren't the ones who chose to print the things.

NoCarbsBeforeMarbs · 21/05/2011 17:44

Oh yes Lunabelly- Dominos are shocking for it!
I bloody hate their manky pizzas so that is one leaflet which will never tempt me (any pizza menu tbh)
I get one at least once a week from them.

Enigma · 21/05/2011 17:46

You sound entitled and precious. Just put the unwanted leaflets into the recyling - simples

MoonGirl1981 · 21/05/2011 17:51

I don't think you were unreasonable.

You've put up a sign saying no junk mail, people should respect that!

Even if they can't read then the person employing them should point out what these signs mean - they all say pretty much the same thing! Desperately worries me; if they can't read that then chances are they can't read 'danger high voltage' or 'fire exit' signs either.

I have one, I've complained when it's ignored - is a pain in the arse to walk to the recycling bin at the of my drive in my slippers.

theyoungvisiter · 21/05/2011 18:08

"is a pain in the arse to walk to the recycling bin at the of my drive in my slippers."

Is this a joke?

Cocoflower · 21/05/2011 18:15

In my old house it used to irriate me that our paper waste box used to fill up in days from all this junk. We had to order an extra recycling box. Why should my garden be filled with ugly plastic boxes just to accomodate what I consider fly-tipping in my own home?

NoCarbsBeforeMarbs · 21/05/2011 18:41

Haha I thought that too, theyoungvisitor.

Those leaflets...you can't leave them in the house until next morning y'know, they'll walk around all evening dripping grease, and terrorising the family Wink

NoCarbsBeforeMarbs · 21/05/2011 18:42

And they steal your shoes.

It's reasonable to expect someone to take note of your sign. Saying that someone might not be able to read is beside the point. They should not be doing a job in which (as we now see) reading signs is required to do it properly.

A1980 · 21/05/2011 21:11

YABU

You got your son off to sleep at aboutt 11:42. What if you'd got him off earlier and the same incident was caused by the postman? Would you have done the same to him. OR how about screaming at your dog.

Life it hard, kids gets sick, suck it up and get a grip.

A1980 · 21/05/2011 21:11

I've just realised my last sentence rhymes. It wasn't intentional!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 21/05/2011 21:43

Quickly patent it, A1980... Grin

RatherBe · 21/05/2011 21:44

I'm sorry - I know that this is AIBU and not pedants' corner, but 'fly-tipping' is leaving things illegally in the open eg in the countryside or by the road, not putting junk mail through a letterbox.

Cocoflower · 22/05/2011 12:33

Its a Antithesis, a Hyperbole if you will, merely to demonstrate how much distaste one has for such a practice.

HTH.

microfight · 22/05/2011 13:20

I have a very small business and I leafleted myself and yes I put the leaflets through the doors with no junk mail notices. Oops!
The reason I did this was because it was the cheapest way to reach as many people as possible. I got some abuse from a couple of people including one very irate person threatening me with a law suit for trespassing.
I also got a phone call from someone who first complained but then asked about my business and became a customer.
I would say now around 70% of my business has come from that flyer drop of which many people had no junk mail on the door.
I do understand how frustrating it is but it was the only feasible way to get my business of the ground.

theyoungvisiter · 22/05/2011 13:44

[whisper - it's not an antithesis either]
