Can you not open the window wide, put the lights out, and leave the room for a few minutes?

They're nocturnal creatures and bessie/berty bat doesn't get out soon s/he may spend the night swooping around your corridor and be fast asleep suspended from the light fitting by the time your DH puts in an appearance.
