returning from maternity leave onto sick leave

I've got depression/PTSD resulting from a nightmare birth that resulted in permanent physical harm. I can't really face returning to work. I can't decide whether I should return onto sick leave though as I could get a doctor's note for PTSD as am having counselling for this.

AIBU to return onto sick leave even though I'll probably never go back??

Thanks for replies. Btw regarding caring for my family, I have almost full time support from relatives as I am not in a position to do everything myself.

I have found the NHS to be pretty abysmal re counselling - there was a 12 week waiting list at my GP's and it would be general counselling not specialised enough for me.

I was offered counselling at the hospital but find going there makes things worse as they caused the problems and we are currently suing them for negligence.

My views on what to do change daily tbh I don't really care about the money so may ask my employer if I can go on unpaid leave for a while until I can cope a bit better.
