My boss doesn't use O2 but he wants the £5/mth discount code they give to customers. He knows I am an o2 customer so he went on their site and put MY mobile number in to get the code, then told me after by email i might get a txt from o2.. Even worse, he did it out of work hours so clearly he had no intention of asking properly. mega pi$$ed off.

No, it's inappropriate and cheeky.

I wouldn't help him out, say if they need a confirmation reply back - what if you want to use that discount yourself in future?

But you don't have to justify yourself to him. It's not his phone. End of. Unless it's a phone work paid for, and he's going to be using it for work purposes.

Do you have to pay for this at all, or does this now mean you can't offer the discount to a real friend? If either of these, your boss needs an e-mailed reply (on company e-mail) pointing this out, possibly telling him you will be phoning the provider to tell them you do not give permission.

Even if you don't suffer materially, I am surprised that o2 would let slip a discount to someone who input a random number, with no permission from that number owner. Surely they could be defrauded of lots of £5 in this way?

QuackQuackSqueak · 20/05/2011 16:44

Don't know how these discounts work but is it illegal or anything or will it leave you out of pocket (unable to use discount yourself?) If so you should ask him to reinburse you.

What £5/mnth discount code from O2? I have O2 and have no idea what you're talking about! £5 discount from what?

VivaLeBeaver · 20/05/2011 16:54

If he's not an o2 customer how does it benefit him?

BabyYoureAFirework · 20/05/2011 17:26

There's a discount that you can claim for your broadband from O2 if you use O2 mobile... is that it?

Tee2072 · 20/05/2011 17:29

But you have to be using O2 broadband as well.

OP COME BACK!!!

Bumfuzzle · 20/05/2011 17:47

is it your personal phone or a phone owned and paid for by your boss but given to you for work? I assume from you saying that he knows you are a customer, that it is the former?

I think you should contact O2 and get them to cancel the code or something, if that's possible.

CarrotsAreNotTheOnlyVegetables · 20/05/2011 18:05

Bumfuzzle - my boss knows my personal mobile no and provider and he doesn't pay for it - in fact calls it all too frequently on days I am not working.

Bumfuzzle · 20/05/2011 18:09

Can you contact O2 and get them to void the code?
