A petty one for you!

DP bought a ceramic dish from poundshop. Giant crack in it but it had been glazed over so was ok for using a couple of times. Now its on the way out, I can feel the hairline crack going almost all the way along. Its going to crack next time he uses it, for sure.

I was going to bin it, he said no! Its still good for ages! We had a bit of a row because I said it'd be ME who had to clean up whatever food gets splattered all over the floor... blah blah blah.

Ive gone to bin it today but thought hang on.... should I wait just so I can laugh when it breaks? And then he'll have to clean the floor so I will get out of doing it that day! Grin Thoughts?

Yanbu, when I returned something broken to our local pound shop the owner said "what do you expect for a pound?".

Ragwort · 19/05/2011 14:22

Just throw it out - if he asks where it is look blank and say 'I have no idea' - unless he is like my dad who goes through the dustbins so my mum can never, ever throw anything out Grin.

(my mind boggles at the thought of my DH actually going into any shop and buying a ceramic dish !)

A couple of years ago my DH bought me a DVD from the poundshop as a stocking filler for Christmas and when I opened the box it was a different DVD inside from what it said on the cover. I was going to take it back and complain but he wouldn't let me for the sake of a pound and threw it away so I couldn't.

yanbu to keep it and make him clear up the mess when it breaks

yabu to serve soup in the dish though!

DaisySteiner · 19/05/2011 14:52

I would throw it out AND make up some story about how it cracked in the middle of making supper, food went everywhere, what a nightmare, I told you that would happen etc etc. Best of both worlds!

Bogeyface · 19/05/2011 14:55

You see I would go one step further and bang it on the work surface every time I passed it, just to help the crack along, and make him carry it whenever there was food on it. But i am a bitch like that and will do whatever it takes to win :o

ohfuckohfuckohfuckduck · 19/05/2011 14:57

I would be like Bogey Grin

BelleDameSansMerci · 19/05/2011 14:59

I think it needs to "break" when you were preparing something for your dinner - it will be ruined and he will have to take you out, etc. Grin

ohfuckohfuckohfuckduck · 19/05/2011 15:00

And even if it "breaks" when you're using it, he gets to clean up the mess.

DaisySteiner · 19/05/2011 15:01

In fact, why not just throw some food on the floor, just as he walks through the door, make him clear it up and then go out for dinner?!

BelleDameSansMerci · 19/05/2011 15:07

Daisy, you're good!

stuffthenonsense · 19/05/2011 15:08

Mmmm, YANBU, particularly when there is a chance of him not only cleaning up but also buying dinner. Cheap things always end up costing more I fear.

Buy him a decent one for fathers day (or let the kids decorate the cracked one for him)
