My brother is getting married in September. My dd is a bridesmaid. I've had an email from the bride stating that all close family members are to wear red for the wedding as that is her chosen colour scheme. I thought she wanted us to wear a bit of red, maybe as an accent colour, but no she actually wants us all to wear red outifts. All the men have to wear a tie supplied by her.

I look hideous in red and have point blank refused. I am now coming under pressure from my mother to cave in.

Am I being unreasonable or is this normal bride behaviour (if it is I was waaaaay too laid back!).

I'm guessing I would be unreasonable to go all out to find the colour that clashes most with red (coral? turquoise?)?

ROFL Grin, loving the MM, crab, and all in one suit outfits, go on op you know you want to. Bridezilla or what, unless she is paying its your choice.

startail · 18/05/2011 22:25

YANBU, I too look awful in red. I like dark burgundy which would clash beautifully Grin It took me long enough to find a dress I liked for the last wedding I went to of any colour. Simply tell her you don't mind not being in the formal photos, but that you don't feel comfortable in red and thats that.

rey · 18/05/2011 22:26

Control freak or what. Everyone should get presents in red too and let her live with the regret of being so silly for years to come.

RosieMBanks · 18/05/2011 22:29

Love some of the outfit suggestions! Grin Personally I would go along with bluebobbin - and not pay too much for the red outfit! As the wedding isn't until September there is plenty of time to hunt on Ebay and in charity shops, and perhaps you could use Ebay to sell it afterwards!

MissyBrookes · 18/05/2011 22:30

You could see if Ladt Gaga will let you borrow her outfit-made-of-meat. It's red and comes with co-ordinated shoes and handbag too.

But seriously, I'd wear what you want. It's fine to have a scheme but it's ridiculous to ask everyone to wear that color and frankly the photos will look bloody awful. Red is my fav color but fgs it can be a bit too much of everyone is wearing it!!!!

bupcakesandcunting · 18/05/2011 22:35

Go in a "sexy devil" fancy dress outfit.

Cheeeeeeeeeky cow.

apprenticemum · 18/05/2011 23:51

She I guess the bride is wearing white ( a very fattening colour) so she wants everyone else to look like Routemaster buses.......I DONT THINK SO!
You wear what you want unless she is willing to fork out for your outfit, hat, shoes & bag. Bloody Cheek!

ChippingIn · 19/05/2011 00:13

It's bad enough when people go for themed weddings [I always assumed they were quite themed enough to be honest...] and a 'guest colour' but RED - it is THE worst colour for clashing... if anyone bothers to listen to the absolutely fucking barmy woman her It Will Look Vile.

mateysmum · 19/05/2011 05:52

When did a wedding stop being about love and commitment and all about toning outfits. YANBU, but up to you if you want to keep the peace or look good on the day - difficult one...
Read in the DM today about some -stupid woman- bride who was given 40k of her parents hard earned savings and blew it all on her wedding!!!! I know we all want a special day, but I bet she regrets it when she can't pay her mortgage or indeed put a deposit down on a house.

Goodynuff · 19/05/2011 05:58

can you get a tomato costume? or body paint? Grin

FannyNil · 19/05/2011 06:02

YADDDNBU, she is! There are many shades of red from just up from pink to deepest burgundy but why on earth you should wear something that doesn'g suit you is beyond me. Does she honestly think the entire party is going in red? Is she usually a controlling person? Wear what you like and what you think looks good on you with a touch of red. You could explain calmly first. If she says you should do it for her because of who she is, you should say she shouldn't ask because of who you are!

WobblyWidgetOnTheScooper · 19/05/2011 06:16

"When did a wedding stop being about love and commitment and all about toning outfits"

Well said.

Tortoiseonthehalfshell · 19/05/2011 06:22

OP, this is your brother's wedding. Does he have any actual involvement in it past turning up? Your OP appears to suggest that this is entirely the bride's affair. Is there any point talking to him?

SpringFollows · 19/05/2011 06:36

Lord. I love red and wear it all the time, but really. All the different red shades will clash, and red, 'latte' and gold is going to look dreadful.

All wedding photos look silly in years to come anyway. She is just ensuring it by having a colour theme.

iscream · 19/05/2011 06:36

Oh, this is perfect!
Red Fetish Dress
and for your auntie a more conservative number.
Red Ball Gown

FruStefanLindman · 19/05/2011 06:43

ROFL Grin
This has to be one of the funniest threads I've read recently.
Clearly the woman is completely insane
Is she going to get the vicar/priest/celebrant to wear red too?

YADNBU

IWantToBeAFairyWhenIGrowUp · 19/05/2011 07:28

OMG - YATNBU what a ridiculous thing to request at a wedding.

Has she really thought this through - Everyone wearing red will look awful on the photos - she'll regret it.

Maybe have a word with your brother?

BTW - I really liked that Red Leather Dress, shame its £600.

saffy85 · 19/05/2011 07:49

I just don't get what the bride is thinking/why she thinks this is a good look. She's planning to wear baby poo brown latte which is a very bland colour and wants her guests to wear a bright vibrant colour like red. Confused The pictures will look weird (btw OP if you could post a couple to your profile after the event it'd be much appreciated and I could do with a laugh) and in years to come will be on one of those websites celebrating peoples' bad taste weddings. You know, the ones where the groom and all the groomsmen have mullets, the bridesmaids are literally wearing curtains and the bride is in a denim wedding dress. Grin
