to think this is a request too far?

My brother is getting married in September. My dd is a bridesmaid. I've had an email from the bride stating that all close family members are to wear red for the wedding as that is her chosen colour scheme. I thought she wanted us to wear a bit of red, maybe as an accent colour, but no she actually wants us all to wear red outifts. All the men have to wear a tie supplied by her.

I look hideous in red and have point blank refused. I am now coming under pressure from my mother to cave in.

Am I being unreasonable or is this normal bride behaviour (if it is I was waaaaay too laid back!).

I'm guessing I would be unreasonable to go all out to find the colour that clashes most with red (coral? turquoise?)?

Oh come on, ENS, be a bit more imaginative. Just think of the fun you could have dressing up as a red devil, a Man Utd player, a hooker in red.... and then tell them to get fucked for good measure! :o

better idea...

Pictish · 18/05/2011 20:24

Oh gawd - what a twit she is.

Just wear what you like OP - I mean what's she going to do? Refuse you entry?

Madness!

I'm hoping I can post this message having just spat coffee all over my laptop whilst laughing. Some hilarious suggestions - I'm especially loving the colour blind and fancy dress options.

Oh and I just heard that her dress is actually "latte" coloured (whatever that is, personally I prefer a latte from Starbucks rather than a dress shop but hey). It's going to be an interesting wedding...

It seems bizarre to suggest that close relatives wear red because there are different shades of red and you might all look a bit clashing together.

Anyway...if everyone apart from you decides to obey bridezilla, then you might look a bit funny being the only one not dressed in red.

I think if I was in your position, I'd just do what she wants and wear red to keep the peace. One day, she will prob be giving birth to your little nephews and nieces so it would be nice if you were all still speaking.

Another thing...if you just do it, one day, she will realise what a bridezilla she was and cringe like mad. Her own cringing and remorse will be far more powerful than anything you can dish her out now!

Just do it and laugh at yourself!

or this?

Clarabumps · 18/05/2011 20:26

i have a wedding to go to that we're all expected to wear black or white. im dreading it as its a bugger to find an all white or all black dress without either looking like a bride or that im going to a funeral. or i could dress like a zebra..those are my choices. Her reasoning behind it is that the group photos will all"blend" and that no grannys will turn up wearing peach. Im inclined to ask her if i can just wear what i like and stay out of the group photos. CANT BE ARSED!!
plus i dont actually think that the grannies will take heed of this request and will wear what they like anyway.
But Red is awful...think you've drawn the short straw..ooft
best of luck!xxx

YANBU I like red but even I'd be pissed off if someone insisted I should wear a certain colour. Bridezilla of the year award goes to your SIL2B

mamalovebird · 18/05/2011 20:27

Jesus Christ, that is very bridezilla.

I am getting married in 16 days and haven't told anyone they have to wear a specific thing. It's celebration of our love and commitment to one another (and to have a bloody good party), not a bloody fashion show. I did buy my bridesmaid's outfits but I ran them past them first to see if they were happy with them.

Tell her you can't afford to buy a whole new outfit. It's a bit much to 'demand' anything from people.

I went to a wedding where we were asked to wear certain colours so "it will look good on the photos". I'd already bought my outfit (not the correct colours) and wore it anyway.

While I was happy to celebrate their day with them, I couldn't help feeling it just went a wee tad too far in dictating what I wore.

The everyone in red thing is just mental.

allsquareknickersnofurcoat · 18/05/2011 20:34

sorry ladies but THIS one wins...

seaweedhead · 18/05/2011 20:34

The only time I've ever heard of such crazy requests is on MN! Why do some people think they can direct their wedding like guests are the cast of some play they're putting on. I would say nothing then show up wearing whatever you want- what's she gonna do about it, bar you from her wedding for not following the dress code?

allsquareknickersnofurcoat · 18/05/2011 20:35

(cant take the credit though, DH found it for me Grin )

cerealqueen · 18/05/2011 20:39

YADNBU!!! What will the bloody photos look like! Bloody awful. Literally. Say you have something that you bought already and aren't budging. Have a red item to show a bit willing. What can she do about it??

BertieBasset · 18/05/2011 20:39

12 of those spandex suits have been sold. Maybe others going to the wedding have had the same idea.

Oh I do hope so Grin

ShoutyHamster · 18/05/2011 20:39

LATTE???

As in, slightly muddy flesh BROWN?

In the photos she will be the solitary sausage floating upon the tide of ketchup
