Why is it that most of my female friends on facebook are forever posting this on other people's statuses? It's so grating. AIBU to dislike this? It just seems so childish

OP posts:
SisterCarrie · 18/05/2011 14:53

BelieveInPink - how do you stop them from doing it then? I only know about 3 people (through DP ) who write like this, but they seem to be the most prolific on the old FB wall. Which causes my own friends to take the monstrous piss out of me for being "daarn wiv da kidz, huni".

I only ever reply in proper sentences as there isn't a limit on FB in terms of how much you can write, nor is there on SMS any more unless you're composing an essay. So why do they insist on replying with these silly abbreviations? It's like writing to someone in German and getting a reply in Dutch.

SequinsAndSparkles · 18/05/2011 14:56

Well I say 'hun', I also say 'sweetie' and occasionally 'babe'. Used with both female and male friends, on facebook and in real life. Most of my friends also say these things. I am 22, and I am delightful Grin so yes, YABU!

SequinsAndSparkles · 18/05/2011 14:57

Although I would like to add, I don't use text speak!

lubberlich · 18/05/2011 14:59

Hate 'hun', hate 'babes', hate txtspk, hate LOL, hate Facebook.

SequinsAndSparkles · 18/05/2011 15:00

And I am more of a 'haha' person than a 'lol' person! Grin

Takeresponsibility · 18/05/2011 15:00

If they cared how you were why don't they ring and ask? Can't abide text speak (even in texts), poor spelling or terrible grammar. I send thinks back to my boss corrected for poor English- he hates it...I don't care!

aldiwhore · 18/05/2011 15:02

Hun grates on me, but its nice to be asked if I'm alright sometimes... and I refer to the husband and hubby or The Mister, so meh (oh and meh) balance is restored.

If I never did anything irritating I'd probably find it more annoying, but I have many irritating habits to couteract theirs.

BelieveInPink · 18/05/2011 15:06

SisterCarrie I can't. She continues to rile me with her stupidness. I will not falter and lower myself to her level though, no matter how many insincere kisses she puts on the end of her messages. She's one of these that writes things like "Going for a walk xx" or "had food poisoning today xx". Why the deuce would she need to put kisses on there?

I am also a "haha" person and have never written "lol" on FB, ever. I feel like an idiot writing "haha" let alone lol or PMSL etc.

SisterCarrie · 18/05/2011 16:29

BelieveInPink The kisses, oh the unnecessary kisses... Every utterance, no matter how banal or short, needs to be followed by no fewer than 2 kisses. For really LOLZ stuff, they can meander on into the teens. With equal numbers of !!!!!!!!!!! for added humour.

It was my English teacher who said adding an exclamation mark is like laughing at your own jokes.

[Snorts at "had food poisoning xx"]

BelieveInPink · 18/05/2011 22:37

SisterCarrie That was an actual status update. I thought "don't think you'll be getting any of those kisses back, lady!"

Oh yes, the unnecessary usage of exclamation marks. They make me want to cry actual tears too. Heard similar about the laughing at your own jokes thing.

kickingking · 18/05/2011 22:48

wld hav fort ppl wudnt b soo stoopid, lol hun xx

sharbie · 18/05/2011 22:56

oh dear - sure i do all these on a daily basis

bupcakesandcunting · 18/05/2011 23:01

YANBU. Hun.

Saucepanman · 18/05/2011 23:04

I have someone on my fb who writes "rrrrrrrrr" for ah!

I enjoy a bit of passive aggression on a status myself; entertaining to spot, and if you can't beat 'em and all that..

There is one person who insists on putting 'xx' after their every status update - it makes me irrationally annoyed. But so many things do these days. I don't know people and their ways that are different from mine - what is that all about?xx
xx Hun xoxoxox

shakey1500 · 18/05/2011 23:09

There's a couple of friends on my fb that write "hun" etc. I've got used to it now shrugs.

The kind of status that really gets my goat though is the type along the lines of....

"X amount of people are affected by xyz during their lifetime. Re-post this as your status if you care. 90% of my friends will do this, will YOU be one of the 10% that don't?"

i.e. insinuating that if you don't repost you are a heartless bitch. Rolly eyes.

lemmein · 18/05/2011 23:17

My best mate of 20 years calls me 'hun' on facebook - never in all of those 20 years has she called me 'hun' in person. Strange.

MoldovanHardHatporn · 18/05/2011 23:21

Hun
OMMMMMMMMMMGGGGGGGG (oh my my my my my my my my god god god god god god god god god god)
Looooooooooooooooooooool (laugh out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out loud)

Both of the above make people sound like they have a stutter

Awwwwwwwwwwwwww (shut up, just shut up already)
Sexxiiiiii (and any other over use of vowels)
Any kind of attention seeking am-drams

And with that I have confirmed with myself why I hate facebook.

fortyplus · 18/05/2011 23:23

[whispers] I met one of the founders of netmums the other day...

KittySpencer · 18/05/2011 23:30

I have a lovely friend who uses 'hun'. I can't bring myself to hate her, I just blame the fact she is still in her 20s. I wouldn't tolerate it from anyone else though :)

I hate those 'if you have...' statuses. Or anything that starts 'mummy's little man/little princess (or worse still ickle )

DS's friends are dreadful for the use of an elongated LOL. He asked he to check his FB the other day, I told him a girl had commented on his status. When he asked what she said, I told him 'it's like LOL but with 16 O's and 4 L's'. He didn't find that at all amusing, oddly Grin

2rebecca · 18/05/2011 23:37

Why do you choose such dozy friends?
No-one I know uses "hun". Is it a regional thing or are you all 16?

halfyorkshiremanhalfessexgirl · 18/05/2011 23:40

YANBU at all

Those if you care about............... statuses are like the chain letters of facebook, like those chain texts 'if you know a mother who loves her kids.....'

Yes, I care about cancer, and someone very close to me has cancer, but I don;t want to post this stupid guilt trip status . NO ..not even for an hour!

Grrrr

ClipArt · 19/05/2011 00:19

YABU. Each to their own.

Rannaldini · 19/05/2011 00:26

why do you have facebook?
it's crap
