Why is it that most of my female friends on facebook are forever posting this on other people's statuses? It's so grating. AIBU to dislike this? It just seems so childish

OP posts:

HOPE

Morloth · 18/05/2011 13:16

huns, not for hugging.

AngryGnome · 18/05/2011 13:18

Actually, the worst ones are the kind of lifestyle boasts, e.g

"Awwww, mummy is so proud of her little man for buying me diamond stud earrings for first mother's day"
"Just had amaaaaazing holiday scuba diving in Hawaii with perfect partner, life just doesn't get any better than this".

Grrrrr.
Perhaps I am just a grumpy fucker though.

DontCallMePeanut · 18/05/2011 13:20

Grin Morlorth, I did reply to a friend once that I was not called "Atilla"... I think that image sums it up perfectly.

valiumredhead · 18/05/2011 13:21

Agree about lifestyle boasts! I don't have a lifestyle, I have a fecking LIFE! Grrrrrrrrrr!

Bramshott · 18/05/2011 13:21

Usually when I see this it's in response to some sort of attention-seeking or passive-agressive status that has already got my back up, like "X is feeling really down today", or "X wishes that some people wouldn't be so nasty" Hmm. Irritable? Moi? Wink

messylittlemonkey · 18/05/2011 13:22

YANBU. Hate it. Smacks of pretending to care whilst really not giving a shit but wanting everyone to think you're a lovely, thoughtful person.

AngryGnome · 18/05/2011 13:23

Morloth Grin

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 18/05/2011 13:24

My mother tends to put 'argh' instead of 'awwwww', which makes her horror/pirate impressions deeply amusing.

gkys · 18/05/2011 13:26

Grin oh hunies it just txt speak chillax Wink

too good to resist sorry Grin

Mandy2003 · 18/05/2011 13:28

Hun - noun

  1. A member of a warlike Asiatic nomadic people who ravaged Europe in the 4th?5th centuries.
  2. A reckless or uncivilized destroyer of something.
  3. A disparaging name for a German.

3 reasons I do not use this term.

stillfeel18inside · 18/05/2011 13:28

can't bear hun, also :) or ;) drive me crackers. I have one friend who always puts them after a slightly controversial/borderline bitchy statement to kind of sweeten the pill.

sausagesandmarmelade · 18/05/2011 13:30

Also hate "hun" and kisses by people who don't even know you....

They mean sod all.........

melikalikimaka · 18/05/2011 13:32

I feel it is condescending to call anyone 'Hun', always feel they are taking the piss....they usually are.

ShoutyHamster · 18/05/2011 13:33

Start doing it yourself on all their facebook walls, but with one slight alteration:

'hope u r ok visigoth x'

Get 'em thinking

DontCallMePeanut · 18/05/2011 13:41

Awww, lool, huns, u r all soooo funny xxxx

lifeinthemidlands · 18/05/2011 13:42

It's the xx that annoy me more than anything. I think there should be a rule you shouldn't write kisses you wouldn't actually deliver in real life. Best friend, partner, relative - fine. Your hairdresser or your child's friend mother you barely know - no.

Fimbo · 18/05/2011 13:51

My sister in law (late 40's) has her best friend listed as her "sister" on fb. I did chuckle to myself at that and think, are you 12?

CinnabarRed · 18/05/2011 13:53

According to Urban Dictionary, LOOL means:

  1. LOL acronym accented with two emoticon eyes, for a surprise and 'ooh' effect
  1. to laugh but also to drool, to emphasise the 'o' thus making it LOOL.
  1. 'Laughing Overly Out Loud'. A derivative of LOL.
HeadfirstForHalos · 18/05/2011 13:56

I don't use "hun", but I can think of far worse things a friend could post. At least it is meant kindly.

BelieveInPink · 18/05/2011 13:57

Dos anyone else get annoyed at writing coherent, well written messages to people and then getting complete drivel back again? You would think these people would notice the well constructed sentences, correct spelling and use of punctuation and think "I suppose I ought to make the effort not to sound like an illiterate twat in my reply" but nope, I have to endure "hope your ok hun, we re all grate and we carn t wait 4 the wkend"

Raaaaaaaaaar. My particular pet hate in replies like that one ^^ is that they have clearly left a space where there needs to be an apostrophe, but left the space, neglected, lonely and in desperate need of someone to make it all right again.

I think these things through far too much.

BelieveInPink · 18/05/2011 13:59

Kill me now.

"Does" not "dos".

thelittlefriend · 18/05/2011 14:02

shoutyhamster I love the visigoth idea

manticlimactic · 18/05/2011 14:42

Everytime I see 'Hope you are ok hun xx' I read it as 'Tell me what's wrong because I'm a nosey parker. Tell me, tell me! xx'. Because you know it's only ever put in reply to one of those oh-so crypic statuses don't you? Grin

QualiaQuale · 18/05/2011 14:48

CULL, anyone who LOL's or Hun's on my wall...instant CULL.
