Well, am I?

OP posts:
FreudianSlipper · 18/05/2011 15:09

i think some have voted for them in local elections as they have felt the bnp are listening to what they have to say while other parties are not, but many of these voters have not supported them in general election and hopefully never will. this is how they have become popular by claiming to be the unheard voice of many, which is utter rubbish as they only have one policy

but if you join up and are a member of the bnp then yes without a doubt, to go that far you have to believe in their fundamental policies and that is to rid britian of non white christians

i hate the bnp, a party run by vile nasty people who are full of hatred for anyone that is not like themselves

AbsDuCroissant · 18/05/2011 15:45

It could be worse though. The BNP could have someone like Marine Le Pen, who is intelligent, articulate and comes across as a legitimate politician. A much scarier prospect

AbsDuCroissant · 18/05/2011 15:46

My Mom got moved on once by an election official, for harassing the BNP candidate over inaccuracies in their campaigning literature (they were saying the East Asian immigrants were terrorising the local yoof. The opposite was true)

I just went to see the holocaust museum in D.C this week. They had a section on propaganda that was very interesting... I had always wondered how it was possible for a nation to suddenly become racist to such a degree... it struck me as scary that actually they were a minority party and that they carefully targeted each separate group of the population, telling them what the wanted to hear, in order to gain a foothold.

This is how the BNP works. I am horrified that my Nana and Granddad wanted to vote BNP in the local elections. Their decision was based on what they had read in those bastions of objective reporting, the News of The World and The Sun, and also on the policies that were shouted from loud speakers outside their home; more money for OAPs, more fuel allowance, better care and respect for the elderly. My grandparents barely even knew of the other policies, except a vague idea that Britain would take back jobs from the foreigners...

So, I think not all supporters are actually actively racist, but are guilty of ignorance and that it would only take a small jump to go from allowing BNP to have a few seats, to finding ourselves in the midst of another holocaust.

Ormirian · 18/05/2011 16:19

Agreed.

It doesn't matter if you are pissed off about the economy, worried about local employment levels, angry with the current govt. If you vote BNP you are voting for a nasty racist organisation. There are no excuses. Sorry. Get over it!

TobyLerone · 18/05/2011 16:27

It makes me sad when old people in particular vote BNP. There is a lyric from one of my favourite bands, Sonic Boom Six, which goes:

^"Grandfather gave the best years of his life to this country
So that we could all be free from a fascist tyranny
Now he only goes and votes for BNP."^

FreudianSlipper · 18/05/2011 16:33

so if you have lived in an area that has changed beyond recognition in the last 20 years, the majority of your neighbours are immigrants, jobs are difficult to come by in your area and your children have not been able to get a council or ha place like it was always assumed they would. when you complain that immigration has changed your community you are called a racist (usually by white middles class who do not face this problem and would soon be crying if they did) and no one seems to be listening to what you have to say and along come the bnp and they do.

i am not surprised they have received so much support in some areas, if immigration was dealt with more care, consideration for all, those coming here as asylum seekers were supported and homed in all areas not jsut the poorest the bnp would not have the support they do

nokissymum · 18/05/2011 17:04

I know a lady who told her black friend that she had voted for the BNP, when asked why she said cos they were the only ones doing something about immigration, she wasn't aware of any of their other policies.

The BNP gained a lot of support on immigration as people were getting fed up of other parties passive attitude.

onagar · 18/05/2011 17:30

"that they carefully targeted each separate group of the population, telling them what the wanted to hear, in order to gain a foothold.

This is how the BNP works"

Actually that's how politicians work. The Tories and Labour do that all the time.

While I have little time for the BNP the tone of these sort of threads always bothers me. People saying a party shouldn't be allowed because it doesn't support what they want. People lumping together a large group of people and declaring that they all do or think this and that. Isn't that one of the things you hate about the BNP?

Someone mentioned that "they don't believe in climate change" Wow! let's shoot them all like dogs then.

mx5hairdresser · 18/05/2011 20:03

"your children have not been able to get a council or ha place like it was always assumed they would"

mx5hairdresser · 18/05/2011 20:05

edit-
"your children have not been able to get a council or ha place like it was always assumed they would"
that's not the fault of immigrants, that's the fault of those who bought council houses in the 80's despite knowing the tories were trying to stop new ones being built!

So immigrants aren't in any council or ha properties?

I think people vote BNP because the know it scares the mainstream politicians to death when they do. Guardian types as well. The people at fault are the ones that have benefitted from immigration, but still feel the need to tell normal hard-working people that they are 'racist' for being opposed to it.

RobF · 18/05/2011 20:11

"If all the countries that have accepted people of British descent were to turn around and return those people to Britain there would be about 300 million people steaming up to the docks in Liverpool over the next year or so."
What does that have to do with the BNP?

Why would other countries suddenly decide to expel people of British descent?

Mamaz0n · 18/05/2011 20:11

racist or not, they are thick as shit and twice as stoopid

i am not saying it was the fault of immigrants i said if you read all of my post is that immigration has been badly managed. there are areas of london that have a very high number of immigrants many are asylum seekers, and while there is a need to look after them there is also a need to look after the people who already live there and they often feel they have been over looked, the area they live in has completely changed the bnp listen to them (or at least pretend to) if immigration had been managed better the bnp would not be as popular.

usualsuspect · 18/05/2011 20:51

yes they are a bunch of racist arseholes

Mumcentreplus · 18/05/2011 21:11

They are actually extremely frightened and imo in some instances quite basic people

Mumcentreplus · 18/05/2011 21:14

Sorry but people who buy into BNP propaganda have never really thought it through and tend to let others think for them..they feel slighted..they blame others instead of looking at the whole picture...

mummissinghermind · 18/05/2011 21:16

Yes.

CurrySpice · 18/05/2011 21:22

YANBU. If someone told me they supported / voted BNP I would literally back away nd never speak to them again because I would assume they were either

a. a bigot
b. thick
c. both

carminaburana · 18/05/2011 21:29

Agree with onagar and RobF - ( and yes RobF - people vote tactically in order to scare the main parties - which works, immigration was top of the tories 'to do' list )

ohnelly · 18/05/2011 21:29

Yanbu!!!

chubbly · 18/05/2011 22:12

Archiel- I don't think drawing comparisons between native american genocide and the bnp wanting to 'get rid of the darkies' is a legitimate parallel. Westerners went to America to conquer, I don't think people moving to Britain are out to force British people out, steal their land and make them live on reservations.
It's laughable what they claim to be protecting too... Plus add to the list the Irish. The bnp want them all out too. Nick Griffin gets me so angry... There is a website where you can vent your frustration at the bnp by slapping him. Let me find the link.
