Well, am I?

OP posts:
AbsDuCroissant · 18/05/2011 12:13

you could be a big moron as well, there are many reasons.

I did, however, briefly flirt with the idea of voting for them, but that's just because they were promising me (and other immigrants) £50,000 each to leave the UK. I would take it in a heart beat

DontCallMePeanut · 18/05/2011 12:13

Bold didn't work, but this one is a pure gem

"Remove politically correct senior police officers and ensure the police remain the servants of the people, not the agents of the politically correct state."
Sorry, sir. You're not a racist, sexist, homophobe. Here's your p45...

TotemPole · 18/05/2011 12:13

Shock DontCallMePeanut, I had no idea.

That's mad.

DontCallMePeanut · 18/05/2011 12:15

I'm reading their manifesto now... It's just... heartbreaking, really...

NormanTebbit · 18/05/2011 12:17

"they are marketing geniuses"

I wouldn't go that far. They are not even near that. They are a bunch of knuckle draggers.

DontCallMePeanut · 18/05/2011 12:18

"Reintroduce Christian assemblies, as a cornerstone for a decent, civilized society."
Because you can't be Muslim/Jewish/Buddhist/Sikh/Atheist and civilised.... Hmm
Note my spelling of civilised, NG... I thought you wanted a British English speaking community... Grin

DontCallMePeanut · 18/05/2011 12:20

"End special language coaching for minorities, which drains resources from local children." Yet he wants everyone speaking English... Not everyone can learn a foreign language by hearing it. My mother took tutoring to learn Greek, when she moved out to Cyprus. My dad gave up.

Nancy66 · 18/05/2011 12:21

The thing is a lot of people declare support for the BNP without properly understanding what it is they stand for.

NormanTebbit · 18/05/2011 12:22

Anyway the party is in disarray due to in fighting and a dismal showing in the election.

DontCallMePeanut · 18/05/2011 12:26

Aye, lucky that, NormanTebbit.

Apparently, my DSil voted BNP at the last election. Kept going on about all the immigrants in Gt Yarmouth... You see 1 a week. If that. She got a Hmm from me.

NormanTebbit · 18/05/2011 12:27

Nancy

yes, I think they try to be all things to all people - unemployed? blame immigration? wife left you? bloody feminists, eh Car broken into? we need to get tougher on crime, more prisons, Paedophile on every corner? We would chop their balls off, etc etc

Easy answers to complex issues.

NormanTebbit · 18/05/2011 12:28

sorry punctuation left me there

maypole1 · 18/05/2011 12:29

How do you see one a week immigrants can be White to so he he is concluding from seeing someone who is not white they are immigrants

And to be honest immigrants are not a problem they can't claim benefits have to work

DontCallMePeanut · 18/05/2011 12:33

sorry, vague comment. In general, our town, especially where I live, is one of those town where everyone knows everyone. In our school, we had 4 people of a nationality other than British.

OK, that was a vague comment, but my point was, immigration in our town is VERY low. It's not to the point where even the BNP could claim we're over-run. But somehow, they do

maypole1 · 18/05/2011 12:43

Yes i agree they try and make out like like the whole place is over run.

To be honest for them its not about immigration its about bock, brown and mixed raced people but they know if they dared to attack black brtish they would be for it

So they say we will tolerate the blcks that are already here but we don't want any more don't seem to be so worried about the amount of Australians that are knocking about west london and over staying

DontCallMePeanut · 18/05/2011 13:00

Oh no, australians are alright. They speak English Hmm add to that, didn't we send a load of our criminals over there? Grin

The thing that made me laugh was, approaching the last general election, he gave this talk on (I think) Paxman's show. (My mind has gone completely blank, sorry...) But during which, he was spouting on about immigration, etc. Then mentioned something about St George's Day. A friend and I rolled up, then hadd to explain to our coursemates that St George's Day isn't just OUR day. There's also little evidence he ever came to England.

Add to that England is infamous for using immigration to suit us. We had no problem importing people from India when we had TOO many jobs, before WWII. Yet now, they're a figure of hate. NG talks about immigrants invading us. Our country was founded on migration... We should trace everyone's bloodline, and send everyone back to their relevant parts of the world. There'd be parts of me all over the place. Grin NG also fails, conveniently, to mention how damaging the British empire was to anywhere it invaded... Double standars, much, NG?

archieleach · 18/05/2011 13:21

When we look at someone we make judgements as to how they are different from us and a very positive experience occurs when you are close to someone and you start to see the similarities not the differences.
Unfortunately anti-racists fall into exactly the category they are trying to eliminate ie by hating perceived racists as "other" instead of engaging at a less superficial level and trying to find common ground and understanding instead of using oppressive, emotive pc nonsense.
I don't support the BNP but to draw a parallel based on what the BNP think and not what people say they think: every "right-thinking" liberal would have supported the indigenous peoples of America against their "swamping" by the white invaders. Did they hate the whites for the colour of their skin only or was there another reason??
Did the new US citizens kill the Indians because they were red or because they themselves were being murdered in a disgusting fashion? The BNP are just trying to protect their culture as they see it. I?m not making an argument here either for or against the Indians? past situation it is just useful to draw historical parallels to dispel hypocrisy.
Should the poor indigenous Indians have protected their culture and values or not?

YANBU - you are not necessarily racist but you are being naive in believing politics will change your life for the better.
Ignore posters who just pour out vitriol without advancing any understanding, they are just working out their own issues to use modern parlance.

magicmummy1 · 18/05/2011 13:51

Yes, they are racist, or else very stupid.

TheNumberTaker · 18/05/2011 14:22

I actually really enjoy Nick Griffin's TV appearances, Newsnight/Question Time were very entertaining. I'd like to see him on a few more mainstream shows.
Eg, a Who do You Think You are 25 part special, where Nick Griffin valiantly attempts to trace his ancestry back to the Anglo Saxons. Master Chef Special, Nick Griffin making a gourmet meal from ingredients that only ever originated on these shores. South Bank Show revival, Melvyn Bragg attempts to interview Nick and his cronies on the finer points of English culture, Turner, Shakespeare and Vaughan-Williams, before they beat the crap out of him for being a puff........

YANBU, however, I think some people who vote for them are not actively racist as such, they just don't care about anyone else but themselves and their personal peeves, to which, as others have said, the BNP offers easy answers.

DontCallMePeanut · 18/05/2011 14:26

TheNumberTaker, I would LOVE to see those shows aired Grin Did anyone ever watch the Battle For Barking? (Was on More4 a while ago)

stickytoffeepud · 18/05/2011 14:29

yes, I think they try to be all things to all people

so a bit like Nick Clegg then Grin

Itsjustafleshwound · 18/05/2011 14:32

I don't like any extremism - but aiming vitriol at the BNP and trying to sanction them just adds fuel to the flames.

There are many forms of racism and it isn't always quite so clear-cut ...

DontCallMePeanut · 18/05/2011 14:32

It's just the name "Nick"

In politics, it seems to mean "twatbag"...

AngryGnome · 18/05/2011 14:41

YANBU.

We live in an area which has a very vocal BNP minority and it is hugely depressing (BNP candidates on ballot papers, st george flags flying outside houses etc).

It is a depressed ex-mining area, and to be honest the BNP sicken me in the way that they play on people's legitimate fears and concerns (poverty, unemployment etc) and offer racist, sexist, ignorant "solutions".

Best way to beat them is to join a local anti-fascist group and educate your community! They are not marketing geniuses, quite the opposite in fact and local campaigns explaining the reality of what a vote for the BNP means all help.

aldiwhore · 18/05/2011 14:47

I find it hard to accept that anyone would blame all our nation's woes on people who are not pink, especially if they're of the same or similar age than me....

Considering that many people in the UK who aren't peachy pinky bluey grey are actually British born, and not first generation as well, it seems very weird that they're lumped with immigrants. Yet Australian immigrants usually are met with 'ah but you're alright because you're white and your accent isn't too weird'. I have no issue with either immigrants or less than whitepeople by the way. The UK has been multi-cultural for thousands of years. I think I'm probably the product of a few run ins with various tribes and cultures in the dim and distant past.

To blame all our woes on a different coloured group is like blaming the freakin Vikings, or the Romans, and for a small island that's had a habit of appropriating other countries, its a bit rich to claim that white anglo saxons are the true 'blood' tis bollocks..
