Over accusations of "Stealth Boasting".....

....being thrown at random on MN?

I see this in a lot of threads.

An OP comes on to ask for opinions or insights, and provides "relevant" information pertaining to his/her situation, perhaps adds one or two details which may be above the norm (whatever that it) and someone sneaks in.......oh so self righteously...."I wonder if this is a stealth boast". [Eye Roll]

If anyone needs opinions or insights, of course they will try to include as much helpful details as possible. If they don't, they are accused of lying, if they do, they are accused of boasting. If you do, you're damned. If you don't, you're damned.

There are over a million of us, MNers. Is it beyond the realm of possibility to imagine that some will be significantly well off than others, and that it (their lifestyles) will be reflected in their threads?

So, why accuse them of stealth boasting?

It makes me very very unreasonable!!!!

It may have been a teeeeeny bit of an exaggeration but ykwim!

LadyBeagleEyes · 17/05/2011 19:54

Yes, Mums with lots of children are guilty of this.
As in someone has a moan about how hard it is to have a toddler, then the next person comes on saying "One toddler, your'e lucky, try having twins", then the next one says "twins, you don't know you're born, I have five children and live in a shoe etc. etc. etc...

Boasting is terribly common and vulgar, don't you know?

muminthecity · 17/05/2011 20:34

Oops, should have added a Grin on the end there!

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 17/05/2011 21:10

I don't really have anything to boast about.

Other than my modesty.

kaosandkisses · 18/05/2011 18:32

I've only just found this thread and it's hilarious. I heart it.

I want to boast about something now.
