After seeing Facebook status updates from friends this evening, there has been ranting that beggars belief.

Yes, I know it's politicial blah, blah, blah BUT it's only a bloody contest!!

Get over it people!

Hide their comments from your news feed then?!

trixymalixy · 14/05/2011 23:14

Really?!?!? I thought it was a national joke. People on my facebook have been very lighthearted about it.

They do take it very seriously from what i've seen.

Hide their comments from my news feed?! No thanks; it hasn't upset me, just surprised me!!

I have had fun in making it into more of a light hearted thing though :-)

I've had a giggle on here about it (read the long jedward thread) something to do on a saturday night!

sausagesandmarmelade · 15/05/2011 09:38

Hubs and I watched it and laughed our heads off...

Have to say that Graham Norton seemed very anti Italian. Every time there was a comment re Italy he said something nasty/sarcastic...
Also I note he referred to 'us' when the UK was mentioned....when he is in fact Irish.

I thought the winning song was crap...but in the end it's not about the best song but the politics of the voting...
We had a great laugh guessing which countries were going to award the 12 points to which other one....HILARIOUS..
12 points from San Marino for ...wait for it....ITALY
12 points from Portugal to....GASP....SPAIN!

LOL

hocuspontas · 15/05/2011 09:45

It's a riot! The only thing that slightly rankles is that Azerbaijan isn't in Europe...
But that's probably been pointed out already!

sausagesandmarmelade · 15/05/2011 09:47

hocus - that didn't occur to me...which makes the contest even more ridiculous!

Seriously don't think GN was a good host at all....was expecting much more in the way of witty comments...very dissapointing.

sausagesandmarmelade · 15/05/2011 09:52

As hubs just pointed out...if Azerbaijan isn't in Europe then you could say that ITALY won it!

Voting system was different this time around too (mind you haven't watch the show for years)...there were countries voting who weren't taking part.
Still doesn't make any difference....it is still ridiculously political (amusing nonetheless).

gillybean2 · 15/05/2011 10:15

I think the countries voting who 'didn't take part' were those who got eliminated it the first round weren't they? SO they did take part just didn't make it to the final.
They've had to do this now as so many countries wanted to join in.

NeverSayPie · 15/05/2011 10:34

AIBU to think some people take other peoples FB chatter way too fucking seriously? Get over it OP, people can talk about what they like.

HeidiKat · 15/05/2011 11:35

IMO Graham Norton was not as good as the guy who was commenting on the semi finals earlier in the week, think it may have been Scott Mills but could be wrong. YANBU to think that people take eurovision too seriously, I made the mistake last year of saying on another forum that it is only for washed up acts who haven't got a hope in hell of a proper music career afterwards and got seriously flamed.

Animation · 15/05/2011 12:13

OP - you're a bit intense.

I have to say I was quite entertained by Eurovision last night, and we had the very amusing 'Jedward' thread running alongside with funny posters like MolddovaHardHatporn!

I went to bed with "aah ooh ahh - aah ooh aah" in my head. Smile

KateMiddletonsMum · 15/05/2011 19:44

Yes, you're being unreasonable. There's nowt more important than the Eurovision Song Contest

(on the middle Saturday in May anyhow, hee hee) Grin

rogersmellyonthetelly · 15/05/2011 19:47

the only reason I like to know when the eurovision song contest is on is SO THAT I CAN BE AS FAR AWAY FROM THE TELLY AS POSSIBLE SO I DONT INADVERTENTLY TURN IT ON
And I do mean that. I was forced to endure watch it as a child and I'm afraid its left me scarred for life.

RabbitFood · 15/05/2011 19:50

I was born in the 60's and the anyone from that era thinks the eurovision is a joke. something to be laughed at.
