To tell DH I am getting a cat no matter what he says?

We have 2 DC....aged 3 and 6. Both DH and I love all animals...he especially likes dogs and I have always said I wanted a cat before we got a dog as it works best that way. He has remained ambivelant about it.

Now I have the chance to rescue a beautiful Siamese...he is putting up barriers.

He says the cat will fight with the neighbours cats and it will leave hair everywhere....wtf? Cats and dogs DO leave hair in places and this is part of having a pet.......I just told him that this is something I have always wanted and that I want to get the cat.

He says "No, no...I'll find you a nice dog...don't get the cat"

I can't see why he's doing this? We often look around for suitable dogs and have not yet found the right one for us....but I have found the right cat....why is he being a pain? I have told him I AM going to see the cat today and that if I like it I will tell them that I want it.

Arse! I am an adult, I had no present for MOthers day or my Birthday and I think he needs to let me get the cat. I have also agreed not to have any more DC....even though I would like three....he doesn't feel he can cope with another child so fine! I'm getting a cat.

What wonderfully happy news - I bet 'the boys' will be over the moon when they move in with you.

Well done you!

I did this last year when a friends cat had kittens, dh didn't want it blah blah blah (we've had lots of pets, and he loves animals) I told him to get it for my birthday Grin

roll on to 1 hour after we got it, he loved it, 1 year later we had the 'why didn't we get a cat years ago, we needn't have had children' Grin conversation.

He loves the cat nearly as much as I do Grin

(but I did have to deal with the litter tray and feed it early in the morning Grin)

I cannot wait....I have sked about buying "the boys" a new bed each but they are bringing their own...bless them....DH is concerned they'll expect to sleep on our bed!

From what I have seen of them they will prefer to be high up....on shelves..looking down on everyone else! They "spoke" to me quite a lot....told me a lot about themselves and complained a bit about the service in the cats home....but they seem excited to be coming to live with us!

Yuk. Haven't you got children to look after so you don't have to pretend cats are people.

if your hubby dosent want them in the bedroom do what i do from the get go my cats have not been allowed in the bedroom (six cats two humans would be abit crowded)so i just keep the door shut and now they dont get in there very often and when they do sneak in they get turfed out gotta have one room that is ours, they get the run of the rest of the house and the best seats as it is, if they like height you will probably find that they drape themselves across the back of your sofa, one tip to stop them from scratching your sofas is if they are fabric, just before you let them loose in the room get some water and lemon juice mixed in a spray bottle and spray the fronts of the sofas, it dosent stain and cats dont like lemon, they will sniff the lemon and not go for your sofas and you only need to do it once, if your sofas are leather same treatment but olive oil with lemon juice on a soft cloth good luck and i bet you cant wait

Congratulations Mumblers dear. It took 5 years of gentle psychological warfare to get my Jack Russell Terrier, you are clearly much better at it than I.

MumblingRagDoll · 13/05/2011 22:01

Ha ha Rebecca yes I do have DC....two of them....and I pretend they are people too! Grin sometimes I pretend I am a cat....just to piss non cat lovers off!

I will call the cats my little boys and I will also be their Mummy! Grin

cuttingpicassostoenails Oh I have been at it for years too! It's jut come to a head!

Awww I absolutely love our 'girls' sleeping on our bed as does DP! Certainly for the last 4 cats we've had the 'top moggie' position has been to sleep on my pillow for some strange reason. It's been a bit cramped sometimes but I have never minded. I just love the fact that they want to be that close to me!

Oh and dogs require a lot more work than cats. Cats don't need walking twice a day!

Enjoy your boys OP!!
