have chagred me for a missing a standing order payment from my OWN current account into my OWN savings account Angry

the charges came out today (the day before payday) taking my account into minus, but the payment they claim was missed was from April!

and if i had not have notcied my account was minus and transfered money from my savings to cover it, they probably would have charged me for that too Angry

i spoke to 2 different CSA's and they wont take the charges off, even though i have banked with them for 10 yrs and NEVER had any charges before, FUCKERS

Demand to speak to the manager. Threaten to close your accounts if they don't take the charge off.

Barclays have shit rates any way so no loss if you have to move accounts.

ANTagony · 12/05/2011 15:21

Send them a polite but firm email. State that you are considering moving banks, it is a competitive marketplace and that this incident doesn't reflect the level of service you expect when you have been a loyal and reliable customer for 10years.

You can get the links from their website.

Alternatively phone them if you feel up to staying calm.

skinmysunshine · 12/05/2011 15:33

E-mail the CEO of the Retail bank. Address is likely to be [email protected] or [email protected] (co.uk)

skinmysunshine · 12/05/2011 15:34

Actually he's antony not anthony

Chil1234 · 12/05/2011 15:37

I'd save ink, paper, keyboard strokes and your breath. Just change accounts. It's a lot quicker.

owlbooty · 12/05/2011 15:52

You may fare better going into your branch and harassing someone face to face. I did this and they gave me back the money. They are still a bunch of bastards though.

VinegarTits · 12/05/2011 16:05

Christ! i have spoken to another 4 different people (including 2 managers) and they refused to remove the charges Angry

and i was very polite too!

i have now written an email to their complaints dept, not that i think it will get anywhere

i'm now off to look for a new bank and close my account

I used to work for Barclays. There are not enough angry red faces in the world to describe that experience.

skinmysunshine · 12/05/2011 21:06

VT you have to go to the top. None of the managers will help you.

Magrathea · 12/05/2011 22:02

Barclays pushed my DH to the point of suicide (no really) change banks and never deal with them again

Backinthebox · 12/05/2011 22:27

Barclays are indeed twatbags. I learnt this as a student 20 years ago and have spent the intervening years trying to avoid them. That is harder than you would imagine.

I got a Goldfish credit card - they got taken over by Barclays.

I got a Morgan Stanley Dean Witter credit card instead - guess who owns them now!

My mortgage - Woolwich. Phew, I thought, not Barclays. Oh.... We are building an extension and after agreeing a mortgage based on our salaries they went on to break the Equality Act 2010 by rescinding the offer after they found out I was on maternity leave. Then they got my name completely wrong - their error, but insisted that my husband must have made a mistake with my name and I would have to send them my marriage certificate to prove to them that my husband and I DID know what my name was. Then they managed to read the surveyor's report wrong and somehow wiped £150k off the value of my house, meaning that 8 months after we were first applied for an extension to our mortgage we still haven't got the money. Fortunately we have other means of funding the building work, but they are a complete shower of shit and as soon as my penalty-term is up with them I will be on the search for a mortgage provider that isn't owned by Barclays.

I bloody hate them.

MedusaIsHavingABadHairDay · 13/05/2011 00:00

I feel your pain!
Recently had indepth experience of Barclay's utterly shit customer service myself.. had my cards stolen..they failed to stop one (thanks for that) then failed to send replacements... then stopped the new ones when they eventually arrived 'technical error' (read fuckwit in their department) leaving me stranded with no money....

It was the only time I have ever really lost it on the phone to anyone Grin...

Backinthebox sounds as if you have a complaint to refer to the Financial Ombudsman (financial-ombudsman.org.uk).

Alternatively, both you and the OP could individually consider naming and shaming via a complaint to the financial/consumer advice section of your daily rag - or Tony Hetherington at the Fail on Sunday.

notsomumsie · 13/05/2011 17:02

They fcuked me over loads of times when I was a poor defenceless student. Told them I would never bank with them again when I graduated. I haven't.

I wouldn't bother, I work there and they won't refund.

Call back and ask for a complaint reference, then contact FOS.

Frizzbonce · 13/05/2011 19:04

VinegarTits I feel your financial pain. Customer loyalty means squat these days. I had a similar experience with Halifax after 25 years of being with them and I contacted the Guardian financial page. They wrote an article about it:
'Halifax - a Right Bunch of Bankers' - and the problem was sorted out in 24 hours. So it might be worth contacting the financial section of a newspaper.

LoveBeingAbleToNamechange · 13/05/2011 19:20

Don't bother emailing the complaints dept, always go straight to the chief exec. Everyone is targetted not to get chief exec concerns in banking!

HHLimbo · 13/05/2011 19:48

Shower of shit indeed.

Generally speaking, they fcuk up (no explanation or apology) and then take months to sort it out.
