AIBU to be completely fuming at this school bus driver?

This morning, the school bus didn't turn up to pick up my DD and her two friends who go from the same stop. Luckliy they were smart enough to walk back to their before school club, who notified the parents. One of them works close-ish by so she got permission from her boss to collect the girls and take them to school.

The driver's reason? There was a road closure. There was a perfectly good alternative route available, which the bus driver has used before - it is a bit longer, but they do go that way if they have to.

The driver did not tell the school what had happened, clearly he/she thought it was perfectly OK to leave 3 10-yos stranded and waiting in a state of anxiety.

The school were very good about it, didn't put a late in the book for them, re-contacted the parents to ensure everything was safe and contacted the council to ask what had happened and make sure the girls would be dropped off in the afternoon - and collected properly tomorrow. AIBU to really hope this driver got a good talking to?

Gawd. I wouldn't be impressed AT ALL. Yes,they should get a warning. Not going to get them is one thing, not informing the school is anoother entirely.Hope the girls were not too upset.

Putting aside the bus driver being a dickhead issue what a huge pat on the back you should be giving yourself tonight OP your lass and her mates handled what could of been a sticky situation very well and that is down to good parenting and the confidence you have given her. Bloody well done OP

DontCallMePeanut · 09/05/2011 20:31

YANBU and I agree 110% with what beesimo said. Shows a lot of wisdom in your daughter and her friend :)

RunAwayWife · 09/05/2011 20:36

Well done for having such a calm and sensible DD.

YANBU at all I would be fuming, what are the school going to do about it?

pointythings · 09/05/2011 20:38

Beesimo and Peanut - am blushing. They are all three smart, sensible and lovely girls, and I have done my best to teach common sense. Am probably going to be cross for a bit longer, though...

RunAway the school secretary says the school are putting in a formal complaint with the County Council against the bus company, it went off today. She is a very formidable lady, I wouldn't want her on the other end of a phone when I'd done something wrong.

DontCallMePeanut - I'm sorry, I did...

Your girls did the right thing. Well done to them.

And I'd be cross with the driver too.

RunAwayWife · 09/05/2011 20:43

We have a school secretary like that makes me feel about 4 when ever I have to speak to her Grin

On the up side you now know what a clever DD you have and what a great job you are doing.

Let us know what happens

DontCallMePeanut · 09/05/2011 20:43

pointythings Grin don't worry, Id on't bite if people call me peanut. just comes from a song name.

pointythings · 09/05/2011 20:46

Will defo keep you up to date, if you see a news headline of 'Woman arrested in bus driver fracas' that'll be me Grin. Going to keep in touch with the school by way of plan A first, though.

Agree your girl and her friends sound very sensible.

Hope the bus driver gets a flaming MN style. Grin
