I love thunderstorms, however.... I have to go to work in a minute, which requires me to load items from a 6 foot high metal cage into my car. I will be out in the open for about 45 minutes. Is that risky?

When I was 6 I was on holiday in Florida and I still really how epic that storm was 20 years on. I'm sure I nearly followed through.

I love thunder and lightning. When we lived in Thailand, I thought nothing could top the monsoon storms, we went to live in Switzerland and they were epic. We lived on a lake which was ringed by mountains. You could see them coming over the Alps which was immense and epic.
We were in a tent in Luzern and a storm happened right overhead. That was a teeny tiny bit alarming, especially when the tent started to leak.

Salmotrutta - sorry about your relative.

When I was young our Mum encouraged us to go to the windows and watch and count and so on. Her 'joke' was that it was 'God moving his furniture' so we should not be scared of it.

Clearly to be hit by lightning is a completely different matter and we were (obviously) indoors when we simply observed.
