To be annoyed Grandparents cut DS's hair?

Grandparents looked after DS today. When they dropped him back home we saw that they had taken him to the barber. He had such a lovely mop of blond hair and now he has a short back and sides. We were furious but bit our tongues. I think it's totally out of order to do such a thing, especially as DS has never had his hair cut yet (he's just turned 2). What do you all think?

FUCK FUCK FUCK!!!!!!!!
My heart's aching for you.

OP I've read the whole thread and you sound like a really nice and caring person. It would have been so tempting to hit the roof (which it looks like most people on here would have done) and with justification, but because you cared about the fact that your parents are under stress and your Dad may even have senility issues, you didn't. Well done you. Grin

Pinkjenny · 06/05/2011 16:02

I would have gone bananas. You sound like a very nice person indeed.

solomanswife · 06/05/2011 16:11

That is so awful, your Mum should never have done that off her own bat. I was amazed (but honoured) when my DD suggested that I cut her DS hair when we both agreed it was getting a bit shaggy (he's 3). I've trimmed it occasionally since but only after asking her. Having said that we all do daft things without thinking sometimes and I would far rather my daughter told me I'd overstepped than suddenly not talk or visit. This is how major fallouts can develop. Good Luck!

breatheslowly · 06/05/2011 16:26

Your parents are so lucky to have you! I think most people would have reacted much more strongly.

ScousyFogarty · 06/05/2011 16:51

D.B.A it seems an odd thing to do without asking

x2boys · 06/05/2011 17:43

my parents have my boys quite abit they do comment if they think they need a hair cut but i usually agree with them i dont think they would ever take it upon themselves to get their hair cut themselves very unreasonable

JamieAgain · 06/05/2011 17:48

I've read about this on MN before. I can't see in what Universe anyone would think it acceptable - and like stleger I'm a bit meh about other issues.

alemci · 06/05/2011 17:51

I think it was a bit of a cheek but I know its a cliche but obviously his hair will grow back.

I remember once i let my mum in law trim my daughters hair when she was about 2 and my dd moved and it looked ridiculous. I must admit it was funny but my DH was really annoyed and had a go at me even though he was there as well.

Happygochuckie · 06/05/2011 17:54

I really feel for you OP, thats wrong on so many levels - his first hair cut! YANBU at all. My nephew, as a tot had beautiful long golden blond curls (he is mixed race, and being afro-caribbeans we had never had anyone with hair like that in the family before) so naturally my sis wanted to keep it uncut for as long as possible. Dsis' inlaws said he looked poncy and girly and were itching to cut it off, always making remarks like "oh he has still got his girly curls") but even they managed to hold back. She eventually cut his hair last year before he started school, and I'm pretty sure part of the reason why she left so long was just to spite them.

QuackQuackBoing · 06/05/2011 17:54

I'd be so upset! Make sure they know that you are upset about it.

vhappymumma2b · 06/05/2011 18:01

Blimmin hell, I would be so upset if either my DP's parents or my parents did that! Definitely not being unreasonable to be piddled off at this!

Lovedmyheyday · 06/05/2011 18:09

YANBU. My mother cut my DS's beautiful hair when he was about one. She'd hacked a jagged fringe into it,then denied it Shock

ENormaSnob · 06/05/2011 18:20

I would hit the fucking roof.

TidyDancer · 06/05/2011 18:39

No way are you unreasonable. If any of my DCs grandparents pulled a stunt like this, I would go mad at them. Luckily, I don't think any of them would. FIL may prefer shorter hair on DS, but would not go behind mine and DP's back.

heliumballoons · 06/05/2011 18:55

YANBU - and did very well to keep quiet. I think I'd hve been so shocked my mouth would have engaged before brain. Blush

My dad used to cut DS as he had short all over. He would do it every 6 weeks or thereabouts. One day when they had him for the weekend as I went away with a friend Dad text me, apologising for disturbing me and asked if I'd like him to cut it as he was there and due a cut in a week or so.

bustersgirl · 06/05/2011 21:08

YANBU... my DS (1 and a half at the time) had a lovely white / blonde mop intil his STUPID IDIOT aunty cut it... OMG it was horrid he had to have it all shaved off it was that bad. Everyone knows not to touch my LO's hair now.
