To really not want people to end text messages with a xxx

AIBU, I find it really disrespectful when people send my husband work texts and emails with x or even xxx. It seems it's really common these days and I'm wondering if I am BU. I'm never going to do it and i certainly won't like it but interested to know others opinions.

I think for many people it's just habit rather than anything meaningful.

Flisspaps · 05/05/2011 19:15

Although I only put xxx to DH, xx to other family and good friends and nothing for anyone else.

squeakytoy · 05/05/2011 19:15

I would add a x to a text if it was a friend, but not a colleague who I didnt have a "friends" relationship with.

Bogeyface · 05/05/2011 19:16

i dont like it either. Only my DH, my kids, my parents or very close friends get xxx.

thelittlefriend · 05/05/2011 19:17

kisses to work colleagues? that's just strange. Even work colleagues who are friends out of work.

maddy68 · 05/05/2011 19:18

I always add xx's to my friends in a text I use it almost as punctuation. I have loads of male friends as well as female friends and they all get xx's at the end.

unsurevalentine · 05/05/2011 19:19

My OH and his ex wife used to put them on texts to each other Hmm

I work with teenagers and I have a work mobile that I text them on to let them know when they have appts etc.

Really shocks me how many of them put xxxxx's on esp when they have never met me!!

CandiceMariePratt · 05/05/2011 19:20

I do it x x x

CatIsSleepy · 05/05/2011 19:21

well it's a bit weird with work colleagues

but i do find i don't know how to end texts sometimes...i put an x by default really but then again i am usually texting friends

MrsHerculePoirot · 05/05/2011 19:23

I would only do it if friends and not a professional text or e-mail. Having said that I am a teacher and have once sent an e-mail to a load of students then ended it love c x without thinking which I was mortified about! Everyone else of course thought it was hilarious!

YellowDinosaur · 05/05/2011 19:23

I do this to friends and family. I don't do it to male friends unless I know them and their wives really well - well enough to know it won't cauise problems.

I have on occasion slipped up and done it to people I wouldn't normally without thinking which is a bit embarrassing!

I think to male colleagues and blokes you don't know well its a bit Hmm but I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it either tbh

magicmelons · 05/05/2011 19:26

My dh works with children his staff do it but predominantly it's the mums. I find it weird, I would never end a text to a colleague or any of dds s hoolfriends dads like that. One of the 20 ur old guys that works for dh and I were discussing it and he said it's because I am old ( 31) that I don'time it.

ENormaSnob · 05/05/2011 19:51

Friends text - fine

professional text/email - not fine

PumpkinBones · 05/05/2011 20:06

I do it with two of my colleagues because I am their manager and they are young and I want them to think I am cool Grin

I do it with my family and some friends. One of my friends hates it. She gets extra. Xxxxxx

moonbeam32 · 05/05/2011 20:38

i even do it on my facebook when i'm commenting to people Hmm

it even annoys me that i do it. I always end with a xx

pisses me right off and i am trying to stop Grin

AuraofDora · 05/05/2011 20:43

work bit strange
xxx family, friends x thats it

pumpkinbones - it wont I dont think, you are their manager not their mate
I have shite manager, its shite but she doesnt x her emails, well not yet at least

UrsulaBuffay · 05/05/2011 20:45

I can't find the kiss button on my phone :(

Wallace · 05/05/2011 20:48

lol ursula Grin

i give most people x x and dh and close friends x x x if they really deserve it.

But I would like to cut down by one x per text, it's hard though :( x x x

abitlikemollflanders · 05/05/2011 20:49

friends and family - usually

work/professional - never, really odd to me.

Wallace · 05/05/2011 20:54

Don't do work texts btw. and i do try not to x my 21yr old nephew!

TitsalinaBumSquash · 05/05/2011 20:55

I end texts with xxx, its a habit. DS's dr's and nurses end tests to me with xxx to which always amuses me.
