In case the conservatives sneak in and kick the buggery out of our country like they have done to England, im voting SNP so we can continue to have free higher education, free prescriptions and a 5 year council tax freeze.

OP posts:
K999 · 04/05/2011 22:30

Demented...folk who do that are morons, whatever their nationality. I'm happy to say that most Scots are not like that. I'm sorry you have come across the moronic minority....

MollysChamber · 04/05/2011 22:32

nijinsky

Your talking mince. Utter mince.

jaggythistle · 04/05/2011 22:33

Alex Salmond appears to be a big loud plum of a man, can't stand hearing him shouting in parliament.

vote is in the post, but not for SNP and certainly not for the conservatives.

MollysChamber · 04/05/2011 22:34

You're obv.

Bloody iphone.

(it's not an iphone but that does seem to be the favoured excuse for poor spelling / grammar these days Grin)

kaumana · 04/05/2011 22:35

dementedma - I can assure you that the adjective "English" being used with the your following "quotes" is not in any way or form known to me!

Infact, I do not tend to reminsce Culloden or Bannockburn on a daily basis when speaking/working with my English friends/colleagues. Why would I?!!

It seems the chip is on your shoulder. Are you looking for something that isn't there?

MollysChamber · 04/05/2011 22:36

jaggy

I agree with your analysis Grin

I think Eck is a pretty good politician actually. (Is that a compliment?) But he's full of shite.

handsomeharry · 04/05/2011 22:36

Hmm..not too bothered about the 'head burying/sand comment' so much but the 'tartan shortbread/wha's like us' remark leaves a lot to be desired.

However, if you feel that this is a pleasant way to characterise a country then do please crack on.

As for me being sensitive about it? Grin

'Tis only words on a screen.

yama · 04/05/2011 22:37

Have never missed a vote. Will be voting Yes to AV and for the SNP.

I don't agree with free prescriptions for all and I worry about our universities but otherwise I have been very impressed with Salmond and Sturgeon.

nijinsky · 04/05/2011 22:37

Molly's Chamber "nijinsky

Your talking mince. Utter mince."

Yep, there we go...

MollysChamber · 04/05/2011 22:38

But guess what ... the vast majority will agree with me tomorrow.

Go figure......

nijinsky · 04/05/2011 22:42

Is that as intellectual as your arguement gets?

The vast majority won't actually bother to vote. The vast majority are utterly disenfranchised.

Doesn't bother me. You won't be getting the benefit of my taxes if theres independence. Don't fancy having my property seized by the state or something!

Newgolddream · 04/05/2011 22:43

dementedma - yep happened to my friend to on a regular basis - only the words were "scottish cunt" and "scots bitch" - all those type of pleasantries shouted at her . Plus her 2 older kids got it to because they spoke with a Scots accent, luckily because her youngest 2 had an English father they escaped. Hmm

So I think I have a good understanding actually.

K999 · 04/05/2011 22:43

I think that SNP will be re-elected.....Smile

Saltire · 04/05/2011 22:43

I've said this before - all nations within the UK can have an element of "racism" towards fellow UK nationals, from soome (i.e not all) sections of eachc ountry. I suffered the most hellish racial abuse - because that's what it was - calling it by any otehr name or syaing "oh it's ok he was only joking" doesn't make it right- , when I lived in England said to me by english people.
I've also encountered a lot of it from Welsh towards scots, irish towards English etc etc. it doesn't mean we are all the same

Saltire · 04/05/2011 22:44

Things like
"don't talk your fucking jockinese to me"
"fuck off back to jockland and eat your haggis"
"why are you here, you fucking illegal immigrant"

just some examples.

xstitch · 04/05/2011 22:48

Saying that Scots are xenophobic is in itself racist and offensive. I have received racist abuse and had somebody's food tipped over me in England because of my Scottish accent. I concluded that that person was a racist cunt, ie that person as an individual. I would be stupid to think that they were representative of the whole English population, even though there have been other incidents.

Culloden was not a battle between England and Scotland it was between the Government forces and the supporters of the Jacobites, ie there were Scots on both sides. Since it was also not within living memory modern day Scots and English people cannot be reasonably blamed for anything that happened then. Anyone who does is quite frankly behaving like a twat.

Personally I think the cunts that some people on this thread have come across are a disgrace to their country, they do not do what they do in my name. I fully believe the vast majority of decent Scots would agree on that point.

I don't believe free prescriptions are a good idea, the NHS could not really afford the drug bill as it was. It will lead to cuts in other areas of the NHS which could be detrimental to people's health.

I strongly believe everyone should use their vote. Not likely the status quo as all the more reason to vote. People being apathetic and not voting because they think it can never make a difference contribute to the result so if the prefer someone else to be in power they should vote for them. If everyone used the vote I suspect the political map would change slightly.

kaumana · 04/05/2011 22:56

xstitch- Well said!

MollysChamber · 04/05/2011 23:06

nijinsky

Oh my arguments can be very intellectual when I'm in the mood.

You're not really inspiring me tbh.

Though I am fascinated by how much you must earn if the removal of your taxes from the nations coffers would leave us so bereft.

Frankly I'm surprised that you pay any taxes as you are clearly some sort of master criminal. I presume that is why you fear the state seizing your assets?

nijinsky · 04/05/2011 23:18

Would it be possible in a thread, where people have described suffering from racist incidents in our country, not to spout such unwelcoming nonsense to your fellow Scots for simply daring to express a differing political opinion from yourself? It just gives the impression that Scots are really intolerant to those who are different from them.

(this is the sort of bigotted, closed minded attitude that I find so frustrating amongst my fellow Scots. And no, I am not afraid to criticise my own kind).

MollysChamber · 04/05/2011 23:33

Eh, you can't possibly expect to post such baffling nonsense as you have without it being picked up on surely?

Sweeping statements about "us" not getting our hands on "your" taxes and the state not seizing your property Confused leave me genuinely curious as to what the hell you're on about.

There is absolutely nowt in my response that is "bigoted" or "unwelcoming".

PricklyThistle · 04/05/2011 23:35

Re the remarks on the NHS - my 2 good buddies are both pharmacists in the NHS and both think that the SNP, and Nicola Sturgeon have done an excellent job (one of my pals is in no way a natural SNP supporter). In contrast how anyone could think it would be safe under Labour baffles me. Internal market? Keeping Tory spending plans? Ring any bells?

I could go on about the unpleasant bullying remarks I experienced as a child living in England - but I won't. There are idiots everywhere. What would help the relationship between nations is if Scotland had responsibility for its own affairs, and could therefore stop 'blaming' our larger neighbour for our mistakes. The SNP has proactively worked as an inclusive party for many years, and I for one like the sentiment, 'It's not where you're from, it where we're going that matters'.

I will be voting both votes SNP tomorrow.

lesley33 · 04/05/2011 23:53

I have always been complimented on my scottish accent by anyone in the north of england where I live.

Gooseberrybushes · 05/05/2011 00:07

Jeez. Scottish independence rah rah rah.

TwoIfBySea · 05/05/2011 02:48

Labour's legacy is the culture of dependency. If you look closely they've stolen all the SNP policies while making spurious allegations with no foundation. And this claim they make - to eradicate youth unemployment. Yeah, right. But like in some English areas Labour can put a monkey in a suit and get votes.

The NHS, according to nursey friends, is better than it was under the previous Lab-Lib crowd were in. But of course the unions will always find mouth pieces to make up tales. Labour bang on about cancer waiting times knowing fine it was already in SNP policy this time around. But negative campaigning means they would sooner cut their eyes out than dare to agree something from the SNP might be a good idea.

I'm sorry if some have had bad experiences of living here. It works both ways though and I've had rude comments made about my heritage when I've been south of the border.

The only reason I miss Wendy Alexander is the ability to shout ?Bring it on!? every time she appeared on the telly. Grey is far too whiney for First Minister.
